Someone mentioned the Buy-here-Pay-here car dealerships.

I looked at inventory a local one had years ago. Cars were old with tons of miles. Tough in salted roads territory.

Down payment was about value of the car, then everything paid after that was gravy for the dealer. Real racket.

they get the down payment, hoping the buyer defaults. Then it gets repossessed. Put back on the lot, sold with down payment again, then hopefully (for the dealer) repossessed. Again and again. They make good money doing it, too. My neighbor owns a BHPH dealer. Said they've repo'd one car 5 times until a buyer came in with cash, probably drug money (his words).
