A picture is worth a thousand words right? The Summit Hydraulics couplers arrived today but I'm still waiting on the PTFE paste that was supposed to be here last week. You can see the arrangement of the coupler and adapter (screwed in hand tight) which will replace the Faster 3CFPV couplers.

I'll stick with the sticky stuff! The PTFE paste showed up late today and it contains "virgin" PTFE. None of that "used and abused" stuff for me! 😂

It's cold and wet outside so I decided to get all six couplers and adapters assembled on the kitchen counter. I even got to use a couple of the Proto wrenches that I found on Craigslist last year. I needed an 1-1/16" wrench for the coupler and a 7/8" wrench for the adapter.

The hardest part is over. Next up is to remove the Faster couplers and install these which won't take long. Hopefully the weather is nicer tomorrow. I want to get this done before I have hand surgery next week since there's no way I'll be turning wrenches with my thumbs and a middle finger all cut up.

For hydraulic systems an anaerobic sealant like this is top of the heap. Effective, easy to apply, and mess free.

I installed a Summit 3rd function some time ago..... used rectorseal5
the only issue I had was one of the fittings with the rubber o-ring weaping.....

I was able to sock it down tight and it fixed it..... ACTUALLY... now I'm thinkin... I believe I wiped a thin layer of Rectorseal on the threads just above the o-ring. and it's been fine.

I assume thats the 3CFPV fitting you are talking about??

Given the cost it should be! 😂

The paste I bought will suffice for tractor projects such as what I show above as well as the more typical task of replacing or installing hydraulic fittings on hoses of various implements. I'll be installing a Dometic Seastar power assist steering pump in the boat this spring and will look into that LOCTITE 545 for aspects of that installation where "mess free" is more important to me.

That's a Faster part number that uses 3/8 BSPP with an o-ring. I haven't had any issue with leaks where the Faster couplers thread into the valve bodies. It's the rest of the coupler that leaks like a sieve. I'm planning on reusing the o-rings on the Faster couplers since the adapters didn't come with any.

@wendol, I apologize for taking your thread off into the weeds but it tends to happen. You simply asked about tape vs. paste and that got me sharing about my own decisions re those options, as well as the current state of affairs with my boom sprayer. I hope this thread has helped you though despite the various detours. (y)

Your BSPP futtings don't take o-rings.
Unless the valves have o-ring counterbores you need BSPP washers.

All I know is that the Faster couplers that are currently on the M6060 are 3/8 BSPP and have an o-ring. You can see the coupler on the right below and you can also see the o-ring. It's a beautiful day here so I'll be swapping out all six couplers today and will take photos for clarification in case others head down this path.

I got the Faster couplers removed which was a PITA and used the o-rings from the Faster fittings since they appear to be in good condition. The photos below will reveal a lot more than a few words.

Looks fine. Do you realize you have lost ond hand connection, connect/disconnect under pressure and breakaway protection?
Yes, and happily. I don't need breakaway protection, and frankly the other features mean absolutely nothing to me since I'd rather not have oil dripping over everything rather than the convenience of one hand connection, and connect/disconnect under pressure.

If I were needing to connect and disconnect implements multiple times a day, or even multiple times a week those feature might be more important to me, but that's just not the way I use implements. I have the folding cutter hooked up for weeks or even months at a time, and the rear blade stays on most of the winter.

I simply can't stand having oil all over the back end and dripping onto the ground. It's a mess and I'll take clean and dry over any other supposed feature or benefit. I'll miss the dust caps though. I do like those over the rubber plugs.

Another advantage of the Summit Hydraulics couplers is that there's so much more room around each coupler. I can easily get a 7/8" wrench onto all of the couplers to loosen or tighten without having to struggle like I did with the Faster couplers.

I still dont understsnd your oil leak issue. These have been connected for months and are dry as a bone.

What can I say? Your reality is different than mine. My six have been leaking for almost four years and I've had enough. I've had the MX factory rear remotes for almost 5 years and they're awesome.

Looking at your hoses, I would have put the one with the blue tape in the port with the blue cap. 😂

I think your couplers are 3CPCV which were discontinued years ago. Mine are the newer 4SRHF which rellaved them. I wonder what Kubota is selling as replscements.

Color of the tape doesnt matter - at 75 I can never remember which way to move the lever.

😂 But perhaps you remember this thread?

The Faster couplers on my M6060 are marked as follows:

I remember the thread. Your coupkers are model 3CFPV, body size 1/2, with a 3/8 male G thread (38G) with o-ring for direct port mounting. They are obsolete and Faster 4SRHF0822/G38 is a direct replacement. Available from Valpariso for $89 each.

You're telling me stuff I already know. I know what fittings I have, I know the type of thread, I know they use an o-ring. I had to know all that in order to swap them out for the Summit Hydraulics Ag couplers and adapters. What I wasn't aware of is that the couplers that came on my $60k tractor four years ago are now obsolete.

Out of interest, $89 x 6 = $534 so compare that to what I paid for the Ag couplers and adapters. I paid $88.83 for all six 1/2" Ag couplers and $58.92 for the six 3/8 BSPP-1/2" NPTF adapters for a total of $147.75. That $386 difference can go towards the QH20 that I ordered yesterday.
