First time on. Temp gauge does not appear to be working after an over heating incident on my l3901. Now it hardly moves up at all where previously, under normal operation, the gauge would sit in middle of the white on gauge. Sensor? Gauge? Should I not operate tractor till repaired? Thanks.

Could be either or.....

check wiring first - a bad wire in the mix would make it stop working.

I would replace the sensor first - rather easy fix. Lost cost too. Will need to drain some of the coolant to do so.;):)

I would not operate if you can get by because having the temperature sensing circuits work right is necessary for it to regenerate. Do you have the shop manual to look for places the wiring might have gotten burnt? What happened during overheat?

When it overheated, needle went up near the red but not into the red, seemed to loose a bit of power, and the red indicator light came on. Was mowing heave grass w a 60" land pride rotary mower. I shut it down for a while. Then drove it to the barn.

Engine related parts have a 5 yr warranty on these dpf tractors. Worth having your dealer check to see if it is a computer related thing making it read too low, especially since it didn't really overheat and you cleaned up right away.

Thermostat is stuck. IF they get real hot, they'll stick open. Pull and replace it. The engine doesn't like to run cold, no diesel does, and especially not the electronically controlled ones.
