What type of oils do you run during the winter /summer months for both tractor and other diesel equipment ? I've heard shell rotella is a good all around oil. I will be draining my transmission and hydraulics for new oil as well as filters before the winter hits .

I am a true believer in the synthetics, as for cold starts - 5w-40 rotella T6 is good stuff..... AMSOIL is EXCELLENT stuff too
Whatever your choice.....make sure it is for DIESELS
"ROTELLA T6" is perhaps the best motor-oil on the shelf at WallyMart. If you cut past the cr@p on the internet, you will find it may be the best motor-oil for the price anywhere. The TBN (Total Base Number) is as good as lubricants costing twice the price.
Intelligent folks use "ROTELLA T6" in everything from Motorcycles to turbocharged Subaru racing engines.
Rotella T in my '05 Cummins. I'll run Rotella T6 in the Kubota at 50 hours and will run SUDT2 for the transmission/hydraulics.
If you want to burn less fuel and get the best protection for your engine there's only one, Amsoil.
Mobil is good and Delo work very well also.
Most over rated next to nothing on the market is rotella t6. Tried it several times in my truck just because it was on sale and couldn't tell any difference between it and Delo except the engine was louder, the blowby stinks, oil turned black quicker and didn't start as well. I do like their gallon jugs though. I buy Delo in 5 gallon buckets and refill them.
If intelligence has anything to do with rotella I'll stay on the dumb side with proven products that I know work.

Your noise and blow by is due to the fact T6 is a thinner weight oil. Many newer engines are machined to tolerances that require, say, 0-20. My guess is you tried it in an older motor.
If it is your first service I would stick with Kubota fluids and filters. Is there any substitute for the SUDT2 or is it proprietary to Kubota? I bought filters and fluids from Kubota to do my 50 hour service but may think about synthetics after that.
I can put 5w30 Amsoil in and it is noticeably quieter. It's quieter with Delo 15w40 and the smell is just the way rotella does and always has done. It just plain stinks. I don't know what you consider old, it's a 06 F350 with 6.0 Powerstroke.

The S-UDT2 is the 100% synthetic version....... there are other fluids out there that are synthetic too, but they are going to be expensive too!
Kubota owns the "S-UDT2" label but they do not make it, not sure who does the refining for them, but I know that it is $$$ but does a good job in hot or cold!
