Startup Smoke

I'm new to tractors and diesels. I recently bought a 2017 BX2670 with 300 hours on it. This may be completely normal, but had to ask. Everytime it is started, there is a puff of blackish smoke that comes out but goes away immediately. I have attached a video to show the volume. Also, it is leaving a carbon film in the loader where the exhaust blows on to it. Can someone tell me that this is normal.

I would say somewhat normal - where do you have the throttle when you turn the key?

Do you glow your plugs? IF not - glow them for 10 seconds and see if there is ANY difference.

I have the throttle at the idle position. I use the glow plugs for about 5 seconds, but also does the same level of smoke even starting it back up from operating temp. I'm considering doing a compression test, but dont wont to waste my time if this is normal.

My JDs used to smoke like that on startup and would blacken the FEL bucket. This B2601 is not blackening the FEL and is using about half the fuel the JDs used. Think yours is set to run richer like a JD.

It’s not “set” to run richer. Once it’s started it‘s running just right. (That black smoke at start-up is merely the fuel which was injected during start which was not completely burned because the starting RPM was sufficiently slow to give lower compression and the engine was not yet warm.). Once it started… the compression and heat makes for a clean burn. It’s runnin’ Great!

Diesels are not ran "rich" its not a gas engine. Extra fuel is added at start to help facilitate easy start up. A puff of smoke and even a light haze is perfectly normal for a non dpf/cat engine,untill it up to temp. For the same reason you will see soot build up on the fel. Perfectly normal. A naturally aspirated diesel will smoke a little under heavy load, there only so much air it can pull in at a given rpm and the governor does a good job of keeping fueling consistent. So it smokes a little. Again perfectly normal. Keep your fingers off the fuel screws and you'll be fine.
