Why does the manual state that the Position control lever should be in the float position as part of starting the engine? Is that to limit system pressure as the engine is starting? Thanks.

Same here. Although it seems like a reasonable enough idea, albeit unnecessary, at least preventing any unintentional movement of the hydraulics.
