Why does the manual state that the Position control lever should be in the float position as part of starting the engine? Is that to limit system pressure as the engine is starting? Thanks.

Which manual the WSM or the OPM?

That's the first I've heard of Kubota recommending / requiring that?

Looking at the Operating Manual for the L3901 page 54 - not sure if it would be the same procedure - the instructions for "Starting the Engine (HST type)" step #6 below:

@Bee-Positive that makes more sense, thanks.

I was picturing the FEL controls. With the 3ph, if it leaks down, then the tractor is trying to raise it while trying to start with a control like that.

Actually a good idea I think.

You want it down, otherwise whatever's on the 3ph will rise as soon as you start the engine, creating a possible safety issue.

When you park your tractor, you should lower all implements, front and back, so they don't drop due to inadvertently moving a control or due to normal settling.

I've always lowered a FEL and/or any implement when parking to take pressure off the system. Was just wondering if there was any reasoning beyond that purpose and/or safety that Kubota didn't specify in the operator's manual for some reason.

common sense just ain't as common as it used to be so we have say things out loud nowadays.

always best practice to gravity lower 3pt arms and implements to ground and float loader/hoe buckets to ground when parking.

good luck! 🍻

If the tractor has not been started for awhile and something is mounted on the lift, I always lower the position control lever before cranking the engine. No need for the cranking motor to lift an implement while cranking the engine.

Some interesting comments so far. There are basically 2 scenarios
  1. The lift is down and the lever is up. As soon as the engine starts to crank the arms will try to raise adding load to the starter. The L3902 starts so easily the engine will typically start and can unexpectedly jerk a heavy implement to the raised position. Probably bad practice, possibly dangerous, but not going to damage anything.
  2. The lever and lift are both up with or without a load on the arms. There is no added hydraulic load and the lift stays exactly where it was. A nothing burger and something I do on a regular basis. (L3901)
