A recent "spam reported" post got me to thinking-
At the risk of calling down the wrath of Spam haters everywhere, anybody got any good recipes for Spam? I like it fried, especially in scrambled eggs, omelets, or even corned beef hash.

I read somewhere, I think it was the Phillipenes, Spam was like steak to them. So many ways to fix it. Wife fixes it , I eat it. Dang, went to get the wife to see if she would share some of her recipes and she's in the bathroom with her nose bleeding. And NO, I didn't hit her.

Spam is best served with a dog.
Preferably one that is not a picky eater.;):p:D

Spam is an emergency food. If I am eating it, it has to be an emergency.

That sounds the most unhealthy, therefore the most delicious! I will have to try that!
When we were kids, we didn't get much meat, but we got spam when we went camping. It became sort of a treat; especially for my sister- she'd rather eat spam than steak.
I like it for a camping meal, and sometimes at the cabin, mainly because i don't spend a lot of time cooking. For lunch I sometimes fry a slab, slap it between a couple slices of sourdough with a little ketchup, wash it down with a cold Mountain Dew.

My folks used to save and strain the bacon grease and use it to fry fish in. So maybe no bacon. In the olden days you could keep what you caught, and you could eat as much as you wanted without risk of DDT or heavy metal poisoning as around the Great Lakes. Been wanting to ask the BC guys if the lake near Kamloops still had trout with pink flesh like salmon? Little Shuswaps??? We used to park a trailer and fish all day and play cribbage by the light of a kerosene lamp at night. And eat spam sandwiches, or cheese and chutney sandwiches.

Yes Sheepfarmer the trout around Kamloops still have red flesh like Sockeye Salmon. All though I don't live in Kamloops I fish there every year for about five days. I understand the reason for this red flesh is the high quantiles of freshwater shrimp they eat.

Ironically I am in Kamloops right now for work.

I wonder what the Kamloops is like now, it was tiny when we camped there, the lake had nothing around it, you could park your trailer wherever, I don't remember any campgrounds. It was beautiful. The story about the freshwater shrimp was the same, and something similar makes pink flamingos pink. I once knew the pigment in the shrimp that is responsible, but have long since forgotten. Those were the good old days. Glad you go there Corney, enjoy for me too.

My dad used to tell me that no matter how old, spam was ok to eat until the can opened itself from the inside without any help from the outside.:rolleyes:
