The fingers could potentially reduce the chances of flinging rocks, but mine used to fling gravel with aplomb!!if you are talking about the chute guard (stout wires in the discharge chute) they are there to stop people from putting their hands down the chute. safety guard thing.

That's what I did....yeah chute guard. i just remove mine. it clogs up more with that in there. take it out and you are good.
Obviously, you’d remove it when blowing slushy, wet snow, right? That’s when my clogging problems happened!Not your model but a 2750. Also removed that guard and replaced it with this, which is quickly removable in case of a plug up. I find it provides more blow to move the snow farther. View attachment 166247
