What are the 3 metal fingers at the top of my BX5450 snowblower do?

if you are talking about the chute guard (stout wires in the discharge chute) they are there to stop people from putting their hands down the chute. safety guard thing.

Yes, I think that's what he's talking about. I used to have a BX5450 and I think you're right about it being just a guard. The fingers could potentially reduce the chances of flinging rocks, but mine used to fling gravel with aplomb!!

yeah chute guard. i just remove mine. it clogs up more with that in there. take it out and you are good.

Yup! First thing I removed on my 5455HD!

Not your model but a 2750. Also removed that guard and replaced it with this, which is quickly removable in case of a plug up. I find it provides more blow to move the snow farther.

Obviously, you’d remove it when blowing slushy, wet snow, right? That’s when my clogging problems happened!
