Snow chains…do I need them?

I would like to hear from people who are using the R14 tires as to their experience plowing or blowing snow with those tires.
I put a set of r14s on my b2601 in the winter for plowing, just because they look a heck of a lot more aggressive than my turf tires i mow with. Sadly, in the 2 years since i owned this tractor, we never once had a heavy enough snow to warrant plowing, so i have no idea how they work yet.

OK, this is a long video about the need for chains. On a Kubota. In Thailand... So not QUITE OffTopic?
That M9540 had a Kubota canopy that is different then anything I've seen in the US. Also, the ROPS was different 9meaning shorter).

Folks from other countries are more creative then we tend to be!. They are better problem solvers, because they have to be to get their work done.

I lived in China for 2 years and fortunately met a young man who was very smart. We were in the big TechCity of Shenzhen but I traveled several times to stay on his Grandparents farm 200 miles inland in PingJiang (County). I was often amazed (really) at the inventiveness in making everyday needs work.

Here's a hammer mill made entirely of wood and stone that I saw in operation, along with 4 other similar ones in a small river valley as we hiked down a mountain. The village has made a living for hundreds of years, selling a special incense. Bark and roots are collected and dried on the flat river rocks. Then they are pounded into dust, which coats the inside of the shed. Later bamboo fibers are coated with the mixed incense dust. BAMBOO is used to do many things.

The one improvement on that water wheel was a round metal bearing running on a wood base. Notice the water lubrication coming from the long bamboo stick on the left.

Posted on the other “What are you doing…” thread…

I don’t wait to decide. I know I need chains. Your mileage may vary, but hopefully not when you need them them and you’re caught without.

Believe me, much nicer to put on at 60 degrees…..😉

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Ordered the front directly from TireChain.com for the best price, the rear and tensioners from TireChain.com through Amazon (thanks @TerryKing) as it was around $100 less than TireChain.com directly.
If I didn't have bad luck...I'd have no luck at all...

I called TireChain.com Friday morning and got a helpful woman in U.S.A., sent them pictures of the Chinese manufacturing issue (the bag clearly says: Made In China) and Saturday they sent a text they're sending a replacement chain. Glad I ordered early...and glad for the customer service.

TireChain.com replaced the crossed-up chain fast, absolutely no hassle and excellent customer service--everything was easy and ready to go before the first snowfall. The return did get lost on the way back and they asked for a bit of help on the send-off, and that was it, the carrier "lost it" for a week and then delivered it unexpectedly (certainly not the fault of TireChain.com).

Compared to ladder chains the ride is much smoother, though they'll still beat the hell out of concrete if going too fast. Also, there's no sliding downhill sideways and into trouble with the Euro pattern, which for me on ice with rocks and trees to slide into is important.

Turf tires perform better than R4s or R1s in snow and probably better than R14s but I have no experience with R14s.

Tractors are not designed for snow.
R-14’s are amazing in the snow. I have 23 years of turf tire experience and 4 years of R-14’s, I will take the R-14’s.
