So I would really like to get the steering wheel off. So far everything I have tried = failure. I even asked the dealer service dept if they had a puller I could perhaps buy or borrow. Service tech said they just put a pry bar under the wheel and "zap" it on the top shaft with his Snap On air hammer. I even tried that. No Bueano. I really want to add in some accessory wiring and do a new fuse panel but I really want to remove the center stack to do this.

See this thread and search steering wheel removal for other methods

Soaking in penetrating oil is probably the key feature and using something between the puller and steering wheel plastic lip

I wish I could find something. There was some good advice in there though. The thing has frustrated me so badly I am nearly about to abandon the wiring project until next year

Rent or borrow a bearing splitter and a three jaw puller and maybe make some filler for the backside of the wheel.

Put some pressure on the puller and the try the air hammer and you should have success

What scares me about the air hammer trick is wrecking the electronic power steering unit. Mine works beautifully. I don't want to screw that up. I may wander in to Hazard Fraught and see if I can find a splitter

that's what I had to do on my 2160.

I've had them so stuck that it was less trouble to just cut the wheel off, and then cut a slit in the splined part of what was left.....then use a chisel to split that metal part where the slit was. Had to do this numerous times. They get rusted in place sometimes and that's your only option if the bearing splittler won't yank it. If you use the splitter and 3 jaw, put the nut on the shaft, don't tighten it just put it on loose so that the wheel don't come off in your face.

Yep, I bought a bearing separator set from Hazard Fraught yesterday. I may also try to get a larger fender washer from Fastenal today so there some "purchase" for my 3 jaw puller. I tried making a pulling shim with a 2.5" one but nothing is outside of the diameter of the hub enough to get under it. If I knew how to weld I would make a puller with one of those large fender washers and sacrifice a 2 or 3 jaw puller by welding the arms to it. Here is the actual Kubota one. Messicks sells it for $986! Ouch!

I tried the HF bearing splitter - not a very good fit. This piece of scrap is just a little too thick but i can fix that and turn it into one of those OEM adapters with half an hours work.. Lot less than $900.

Thst did not take long - all it needs is the slot
Slot is done - fits nicely but could be another 1/2" bigger in diameter so the puller arms have a bit more clearance on the hub

Nicely done

I don’t need one but are you going to offer these for sale as another niche product?

I have too many niches in my gun already. That piece had been laying around for a long time and it was easy to cobble together. The OP can have it if he wants.

If those wheels are stuck as badly as the discussion indicated I have my doubts its going to get the job done. A custom two piece "bearing splitter" type tool with threaded holes for puller bolts would be more reliable. A regular bearing splitter doesn't fit very well.

Seriously?! I'm in! I will PM you. Let me know how we can do this. I think it will be a back saver for me
