Re BX 2370
So at what RPM should I engage the PTO?
It seems to engage soother at higher rpm's!
Is it harder on the clutch?
I see nothing in my owners manual.
Thanks

Slightly over idle. Once engaged, throttle up. It's in every manual I've seen.

When I bought my Bx - I would engage the PTO at high throttle, didnt know I was doing it wrong till someone here asked the question....

now i throttle down, engage and then ramp up .......

harder on all moving parts......think about asking your body to get to full speed without getting up to speed.:D ( ok - a cup of coffee, a newspaper....)

Something that is going to spin at that rate needs to get to speed slowly

The way my dealer showed me how to engage the PTO was to rev it to over 1500 rpms, then basically slam the lever forward. Made the whole tractor jump to get the bushhog spinning quickly.

I did not like that method because I imagined the strain put on the drive system.

Now what I do is put it maybe 12-1400 RPM's and slowly ease into the drive lever, kind of like letting out a clutch. I bring the cutter up to speed, there is no shock to the drive system and I feel it is a better way to engage it.

How do you other guys do it?

I engage/disengage at fairly low RPM 1500 or so then spool up to operating speed; spool back down to engage.

I have a L3200 HST, I use the clutch, when I engage the pto. I bring the rpm up to a min of 1200 rpm. Push in the clutch, move the pto lever, then let out the clutch, feathering it. This a good idea as I've had junk in the tiller before and kept from having a shock in the drive shaft, due to junk preventing the tiller from rotating. Just a holdover from using a old deer.

I have an HST and this is my first tractor so the clutch and engaging the PTO sounds a little foreign to me. If it's how I think it works, your mentioning of the clutch is similar to me slowly engaging the PTO lever at a low speed then once engaged bringing the engine speeds up.

Somewhat the same idea, just one is gear driven and the other hydraulic driven - same thought process. Slow and easy does it

Depends on what implement I have on has alot to do with how I engage the pto. But in general the lower the rpm's the better and engage it slowly.

at idle speed and then ramp up rather slowly. 10 foot bush hog and an eight foot tiller. btw the tiller I run in 4x4 cuz it wants to push.
