Snowblower is finally off, and I am wondering if there is supposed to be a rubber cap for the mid PTO to protect the splines the way there is on rear PTOs?

Might give the splines an overdose of WD40. It's a water dispersant and will keep rust off. Or wipe some grease from your grease gun on them.

I was thinking more about protection from rocks and sticks..guess a cap might get knocked off a lot.

Made one for the BX23 from some pvc pipe. It's a friction fit over the pto and provides some mechanical protection but mainly keeps the crap from building up on the pto shaft. Don't have a pic right now but will post one later today.

I may never use my Mid PTO, IDK. But every engine oil change, I wipe the PTO shaft down and slather it with water proof grease. I do the same with the rear PTO when I put on the BH.
It is easier to clean a little grease 'splatter' if the PTO is running free than to remove the rust from a shaft when you are trying to use it after a long period of inactivity.
I think (suspect) the cap on the rear PTO is a safety thing, to help prevent injury (shirtails???) from getting snagged on it when spinning. It certainly wpould work wonders are holding in dampness..... ;)

Hi Sheepfarmer. Mine didnt come with one either, but when I asked my dealer about it he found a rubber cap at the dealership off of something that works perfect. I will try to find out what it was from.

Thanks everyone, I am glad to hear that at least this is not another item that I have misplaced...and that something needs to be improvised. There are a few hazards in my pastures and just when I think I know where they are, some more show up.

Hey sheepfarmer. My dealer has another cap for the mid pto shaft for your B2650. I always keep fluid film on both shafts, and keep them covered when not in use. I will pick it up as I havent been out there and looked at all of the orange for a while, and send it out to you.

I was driving through a bumpy section of the woods with mine and came close to landing on a large stone. It could have damaged the shaft if I hit it. I was going to ask a skid plate maker if they could fab one for the mid pto area. I need some armor! I greased mine up at the end of the season to keep it nice.
