Anyone that plows snow with an open station ever wear a snowmobile helmet when the winds are blowing hard? Am considering one for better head warmth and visibility. Am looking at a full face that folds open and has dual lenses.
Being a snowmobiler, I used the suit and helmet when blowing snow. I used an old open face helmet with a full face shield, blown snow can have grit in it that would scratch. With a full face helmet you might want a heated shield, heated gloves are also an option.

Don't need those expensive helmets. Found a full face that folds up and 2 visors with heat. Already have the heated gloves. Was surprised yesterday when I was trying on helmets to find my size that will fit with my glasses. Even a large was tight so hoping the xtra large one I will be ordering works out. Figured I would ask if others were doing this. Would have a cab if I could get it in the garage but can't. Thanks for the reply.

Yup, been there, done that.

I think you are describing a modular helmet with pinlock anti-fog visor. I've had several. I never had much luck on Nolan helmet's version of pinlock but on my Shoei it works very well.

Guess no heated ones for me. For 80 bucks I get a motorcycle helmet with the 2 visors and fold up from the chin. Am a cheap bastard so hoping this will do.

I just wear a balaclava under the hat/hood and a retired ski/snowboarding goggle. If any breeze the trees and winding driveway usually results in some backwash of snow for the turbulent, swirling wind. 3pt snowblower. Not a joy. Unlike riding or skiing deep powder and getting face shots. Repurposed an old sailing two piece foul weather gear as outer wear. Stay dry. Usually. Like wearing a plastic bag. Heavy weight coated polyester with no pit or torso zip vents.

Did try once for a moment a full face safety shield. Even though it sits relatively far from the face it was not ventilated enough to not fog up.

Oops, sorry, missed the "with heat" part. Pinlock is not heated, it's passive. Like a dual-pane glass window, it just uses trapped air as insulation.

I did try a heated snowmobile visor once years ago. I forget the brand but the one I had was of marginal benefit and the wires were a PITA. More trouble than it was worth -- on a snowmobile. Might help on a tractor where there's no real air flow for ventilation and one is not bouncing down a trail.

The one I got has good ventilation so hoping it won't fog up on me. Arrives saturday so will check everything out. Finalized setup on my rear snow blower yesterday so hoping I did't waste 2 grand on a attachment. My 1st attachment using the rear PTO.

Does anyone make some kind of heating pad for the fuel tank? Something to just keep it warm enough to keep it from trying to gel up. I do use additives but warmer fuel would help with starting.

Check your local RV dealer; they stock them in various sizes, run on 12VDC, have thermostatic control and use an adhesive to stick to the tank.

You do not need or want to heat the fuel tank.
Heating a fuel tank would cause condensation and water issues.
It also will not make it start any easier.
Use a block heater if you want it to start easier.
And use a good fuel treatment and call it good.

Yeah, just use an anti gelling agent like the Winter version of Power Service. Fwiw, my tractor has started in negative temperatures even when the block heater isn't plugged in. However, in practice, I really don't need to use it when it is in the negatives since we don't have snow. :D

Better would be to put a battery blanket on the battery. If it's cold enough to gel properly treated #1 diesel then it's past cold enough to reduce output from the battery.

And if the battery is near the fuel tank, so much the better...

Been good so far since owning the BX without a block heater. Block heater is probably a better solution. Thanks folks.

In this part of the world we regularly deal with -20º and colder. New equipment comes standard from the dealer with a block heater, oil pad and trans pad. Getting the oil warmed up before starting makes a big difference in longevity.

Had one of those pads on a 1 ton many years ago. Worked very well. Might look into something like that. I do have one of those magnetic heaters that plug in and attaches to the oil pan. Might give that a shot this year.
