Penetrating Oils ****

As a retired Toolmaker/Research Technician, that is exactly the ranking order I would have placed them from my experience, but I have never heard of the acetone/ATF mix. I'm impressed! I try to learn something new each day, and this site is very helpful in that respect. Thanks for posting this!

I ran into this years ago.
I can vouch for the atf/acetone mix. I use kano kroil. But the atf/acetone is really great. Just remember to mix just what you want to use. The acetone evaporates off quickly.

Fellow OTT member Aquaforce who we've crowned as Captain Candle Wax told us on here a while back that if you heat up a bolt a jam a wax candle on the rusty nut you'll be able to unscrew it by hand.

I read this report a number of years ago. I made up some ATF/Acetone, but you had to shake it up all the time because it seperated, and you can't keep it in a plastic container, like a spray bottle. It would leak through the plastic. It worked fine, but it wasn't worth the mess, to me.

I use PEN-T its Kano Kroil in an airesol can works great, I started use it years ago the power co I work for introduced it to me when having to loosen hardware on power pole next to the ocean. The salt air makes everthing rust within a few miles of the beach.

I had same problem also in summer the plastic quart bottle i put mine 50/50 mix got about 50% larger. Put it in metal can and shake before using , not as handy was rattle can with pipe to get into tight locations...its not used as much.

The ATF and Acetone are also two primary ingredients in "Ed's Red" mixture used to clean and maintain firearms. If you google it you will find the exact recipe for "Ed's Red".
