Looks like I may have about half a quart extra oil in the BX23. Should I be worried? How much overfull is too much overfull?

Overfilled can be worse than underfilled!

Over full is BAD simply because the moving parts will whip the oil - and place a zillion air bubbles in it! And we all know air is not a good lubricate!

Get under and pull plug and remove a good bit - more than you need, tighten plug and if you wish - add the oil back to the upper mark.

Now IF you have a large syringe laying around and some small tubing - you can suck out a bit via the dipstick passage. Most of us are forced to do this on water craft since the plug would make a hellva mess in the boat.

Thanks to all for the feedback. Dropped the belly pan and drained out excess. As an FYI, I tried to buy a fuel transfer set up relatively cheaply to drain through the dipstick tube to no avail. I had hoped to avoid removing the plug again as the ground to upright effort is getting harder and harder!

I don’t know what your level is for relatively cheap but these Mighty Vac systems would be able to suck up the oil through the dipstick tube.

There are actual vacuum systems for oil changes through the dipstick but I think they are more expensive but also more useful.

I've got the 2+ gallon Mityvac fluid extractor...... comes in handy.

would work great for this situation..... comes with an assortment of hose sizes and adapters for dipsticks and the like.
