Every time someone posts a disaster such as the oil plug coming loose and falling out, ruining the engine, or the rear cast housing cracks, that supports the 3 point top lift arms, we just feel sick for that owner. I believe we then, myself included, dash to our own tractor and inspect the issue that just befell the other fellow. There isn't any mystical point here, just an observation of human nature. Agree?

Re: Omg

Major, the oil plug dropping out of a tractor with 12 hours on it is like being shot while at a concert. It's a terrible thing, but when it happens one has to just pick up the pieces and go on with life.

When a part of the tractor breaks because it misused or overloaded, then that's more of a "stupid tax". Got to learn and go on. But if one learns about the equipment and it's limitations THEN stretches the limitations...well what can I say..that's life (of someone maybe not too smart).

Na, I don't go out and check my equipment because someone else's broke.

I agree with you D2Cat.

I just worry about my equipment as to how I abuse it. :D:D

I do go and look at my tractor when someone points out a issue, like if the ROPS is on right or the 'duck bill' on the air filter is facing the right way. I've got too much experience wrenching to worry about bolts. New machine, first thing I do is go over it. Loctite and AntiSieze as applicable.
I do like that the drain bolt on my BX uses an oring. No drain washer! No leaking, no need to stress the threads when tightening. Just snug. Though I might get a spare bolt and drill it for safety wire. That or put on one of these 'drain valves'. http://www.fumotooildrainvalve.com/

When I read about someone having an issue I may not run out and check my tractor but I sure as heck file in away in my memory bank in case a similar issue pops up. That is why I ask so many questions, all the answers have a value and they have saved me from the "stupid tax" for sure. And the reason I may ask the same question multiple times is that the "memory bank" may not be as accessible as it used to be, lol.

Having paid the "stupid tax" on more than one occasion, regarding tractors and other facets of life, I value advise:)

Yep. I just wait and look over my L3901 the next time I go out.
