Hi guys. I just bought a b6000e with a woods belly mower a few days ago. Bought it from a guy that seemed honest enough for $1350 in what looked to be pretty cherry shape. It starts well and on the test drive ran great. After getting home and doing a bit more digging, I found out that the said "charging light" was actually the low oil light. I hooked up a gauge and found a decent 55ish pounds of cold oil pressure and ordered a new sender. I then changed the oil to amsoil 15-40 and went to mow. When she got warm mowing, i found I was only at around 12psi.

Also, this is one clackity little machine. I listened to other zl600 powered machines on you tube and was not overly concerned, but when she heats up to temp, it is a bit louder.

I'm now getting a bit concerned. I actually work on vw diesels so I'm not afraid to get into something if need be, but I bought this mower to help with my lack of time to fix mowers..lol.

I've read about the cam plug, but I'm not sure that fits my issue since I have good pressure cold. The tractor does smell of burning oil a little when running at temp, but it doesn't seem to use any. The crankcase oil looks good and the old owner used kubota oil for all changes.

Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks guys. Pics soon.

Thanks for the welcome.

No hour meter that I see, but I know this tractor was used for primarily mowing and I'd assume it was used well, but taken care of.

Hodge... Love the sig.

I'm *guessing* with 12 lbs of pressure hot, it's the cam plug.

The only other question is if you used a Kubota brand oil filter? I ask this because there have been multiple instances where, even though an aftermarket filter fit, the bypass pressure was wrong and it affected the oil pressure.

Congrats on the new tractor!!!!!

Once the bugs are worked out, you will be very glad you bought it!

I agree. You can afford to work some bugs out at the price that you paid for it. They are great tractors.

Thanks so much guys. I hope this all works out. I want to love it. It's a sweet little rig. I was going to change all fluids and found the trans fluid to be crystal clear.

So with the cam plug, any write ups around here on that? The oil filter is just a screen and I cleaned it when I did the oil change.

Also, is there a good place to buy injector nozzles for these? If the oil pressure works out, I'd like to do them next.

Thanks a lot!

Wagner,

I'm sure you think I'm nuts regarding the filter recommendation. Have a look at what this guy ran into:

http://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10665&highlight=filter

If you search, you will find tons of low oil pressure threads. Kubota put out two bulletins on the cam plug issue...

If you didn't use a Kubota filter, I would certainly try it first as there is history with aftermarket causing issues.

Injector nozzles are available from Kubota. Messick's is a good online vendor. Service Dept Vic (from this site) would be another good source. However, unless you own a pop tester, I'd recommend having them rebuilt by an injector shop because they will check/set the pop pressure at the same time.

Steve... While I can't vouch for your sanity... :p. I completely understand your point on the filter. I have a small business working on diesel vws and only use Mahle eom filters. I have had more oil filter issues with vws than you would believe so I appreciate your advice. I actually just changed my sisters oil in her van and found the Wally World filter to have a loose element... Gotta love it.

I don't believe this little tractor has any spin on filters... Should I check anything else that has to do with oil pressure?

As for the injectors, I actually do have a pop tester, but I'll have to make an adapter to kubota injectors... Easy peesy ;)

Messicks is right beside where I bought this tractor so ill check them out!

Hey guys.... Any info on how to pull the front cover off this engine? I'm into where I can just pull it, but I wanted to ask first. Is there anything I need to do with the pump / governor area or does it pull off as a unit? I don't want to bugger anything up pulling it off.
Thanks!

My day just got worse.

Ok... I figured all of that out. I also broke my balancer pulley in the process.... Don't ask. If anyone has an extra... Let me know please.

Here's some pics... Cam plug is still in. What now? Could it be the back one? I'm starting to get sick when I see orange.

Soooo....

I pulled the oil pan tonight and it is clean in there. The cylinders look nice from the bottom, and the tractor seems to have decent compression. Tomorrow ill try to get a cam cap pulled.

Are these stretch bolts? Does anyone know a part number for the cam bearings? Also, is there a pressure relief valve in the zl600? I realize after pulling the pan that the oil filter is the pickup tube.

I really appreciate all of your help. This forum has been a big asset in my searches for info.
