Got my 3301 about a month ago and still struggling with the mounting and use of the 60" Landpride hog. It seems as if it want to sway back and forth alot. I have tightened the sway chains up almost tight. Is this the correct thing to do? It also seems as if the mower digs in too much of turning with it down. Id this normal? I have never used a 3 point mower as we always had a pull type to use. Just trying to get it set up. Also, I cannot believe how much I have to adjust the lift arm to compensate for something not being built square/true. Didnt notice until I mounted a 3 point boom and the right side was appx 2" low.

any help is appreciated

Thanks

Coupla thoughts: Check your rear tire pressures re the level problem.

Also, the toplink adjustment is critical with bush hogs, there should be a flapper type connection, on the bush hog, that allows you to cross a ditch or crest a hill, and not have the front or back dig in. Once you have the height set with the position control, the flapper joint allows the back end to rise or fall with undulating terrain.

Also, the tailwheel height adjustment affects digging in, and blade height too. Set everything up, so the flapper joint is in the middle of its range, on flat level ground. You want the blades to be a little lower in front (1/4"-1/2") for proper function, at the height you want to cut at. :D:D

Dave covered all the right answers .....

what does this mean

" Didnt notice until I mounted a 3 point boom and the right side was appx 2" low "

On on side you should have an adjustment to lower and raise one of the arms, is that adjusted correctly? The cutter should be "level" in the front if measuring on something flat - concrete driveway or shed floor - and lower than the rear, you only want to cut the grass one time through the path of the cutter.

If you cannot get the front "level" then you have a few more problems than just the cutter;)

Well it's in the shop and leveled the way land pride says to do it. I think I figured out that the arm "lowered" itself on the right side with no load on it and the jam nuts loose. Only thing I could figure. Now on to setting final height.

How much slack should I leave in the sway adjustments? May be normal for hog to swing around but I do not care for it. Seems like minimal would be better

Thanks to all, LH

First - it will sway a bit - needs to a little.....but SHOULD not hit tires....

Brother Hodge makes a fantastic set of "anti - sway" bars......not sure if he is still up and running.

But you ought to be able to tighten it up so that the sway is only a few inches side to side.

I don't let mine sway very much. I don't make it so tight that it has no movement but I guess on my Bushhog it has maybe 1" of play or less.

You want it to sway a little, to absorb impact, if you are making a sharp turn, and hit an unseen obstacle like a rock, or ground hog mound or roll up a dead tree stump, etc...:D:D

I got it figured out to what seems pretty good. . I have it set to about an inch of sway. Seems a whole lot better. Thanks for the help:)
