I am in the process of replacing the front wheel drive propeller shaft and couplings on my 1984 L3750DT. After removing the shaft and cover, I noticed a couple of dumafatchies living on the bottom surface of the frame just inside of the cover flange. They are of a hex shape with a mushroom shaped stem emerging from the center. Does anyone know what purpose these things serve? Take a look at the photos.

I have the same thing on a l2501. I have no idea what it is.

Not familiar with your model, but....
They look like condensation/water drains that are installed on the bottom of many clutch bell housings to allow you to drain any water trapped in the housing by pushing up on the "mushroom".

Like Lilfoot said, they are drains, they are called split pin drains.

They let water out and keep debri out.

Just make sure the pin moves, if it doesn't take the out and clean them up so the pin moves freely. ;)

Thanks to all for the mystery solution. The pin on the front one is free but the pin on the rear one is frozen shut. I will pull them both and clean them. Thanks again.

I'm not sure I'd pull them to clean them! Visualize a cotter pin that is split up in the housing. As mentioned they are simply to let any moisture escape. spray them with some solvent of your choice, and tap them lightly upwards to see if they move. You should be able to rotate them also.

You can pull them without a problem. ;)
The body of it is just a plug, like a drain plug with a hole and pin attached inside of it, you just unscrew them and clean them out. :D

Exactly what they are. You push the pin to drain the condensation in the bell housing though you probably never drained it right?

One looks pretty bent, but should be an easy fix.

No you do not have to manually push the pins in, they are automatic, they drain just from the vibrations and movement of the tractor. ;)

I pulled the drains and cleaned them. I was surprised to see the split ring steel washers instead of copper ones, but then again they are supposed to leak aren't they? The pins fit very loosely into the holes and jiggle around. See photo.

Okay, curiosity has got the best of me.

Was it "clean and dry" on the inside of the case when you pulled them???

Yea they put lock washers on them so they don't just vibrate out. ;)

They look good!

Hey Gillie Dog,
Nothing came out of the front one but 3 or 4 drops of water came out of the rear one. I was really surprised.

Thanks.

When crawling underneath to grease pedal pivots my OCD requires I push on it and never got anything out of this new tractor. (Did not expect to either)
