I know this is a hot topic and there have been MANY good posts - including points and counter points for the virtues of each tire type. Since I am in hilly country, clay soil and pull discs/plows, I want to switch to an R1 tire. I have 40 hours on the tractor and tires.

Question: What are my options to swap out tires with R1's? I called the local tire shops and they are looking for R1's to fit my current rims.

I have 17.5L-24 and 12-16.5 R4 tires with ~40 hours on them. Heck... One of the fronts is brand new. The dealer will not work with me to replace the tires.

Thanks!!!!

Doubt you'll be able to find just R1 tires that will fit the R4 rims.
An option is call your Kubota salesman (not parts dept) and ask him to give you a price for the following wholegoods numbers, these numbers include tires and wheels:
Front R1
Wholegoods number: AMXR8860A
F-TIRE 9.5-16 R1 Gdyr Dura Torque 6stud

Rear R1
Wholegoods number: AMXR8861
R-TIRE 14.9-26 Titan Hi Power Lug TL
or
Wholegoods number: AMXR8813A
R-TIRE 13.6-28 R1 Titan Hi Trac Lug TL

wgator,

That is what I thought... Ugh.

Is the below for tires and rims? Why did you suggest those tires and provide that information? It seems like a secret code...

Like wgator said different rims for R1's then for R4's.

There is another option, R14T, they are a cross from a R1 and R4, they would fit on an R4 rim. ;)

I'm not personally suggesting them, they are the ones that come factory standard on the MX5800 4wd from the whole goods catalog. R4's are replacements for the factory standard R1 and actually add to the tractor purchase price. Yes those numbers are for the tires and rims.

Thanks for the clarification! That helps...

Does anyone have R1 tires they recommend for a MX5800? I mainly use the tractor for plowing, discing, pushing trees off of fields, etc. I have a small tree farm so I use it for those functions. Hey

Are these decent tires:

Wholegoods number: AMXR8860A
F-TIRE 9.5-16 R1 Gdyr Dura Torque 6stud

Rear R1
Wholegoods number: AMXR8861
R-TIRE 14.9-26 Titan Hi Power Lug TL
or
Wholegoods number: AMXR8813A
R-TIRE 13.6-28 R1 Titan Hi Trac Lug TL

Or should I be looking to buy just the rims from Kubota and different tires? Or is that cost prohibitive?

What about calling the salvage yards for tires and rims or just rims?

Read my response on your other post. Go with the 13.6-28 for the height. Better ride, better traction. The fronts are the same. Also the dealer will warranty your new tires for the rest of the 2 yr period.

Thank you all so much for your feedback! What a journey this has been. You are right, you can't find R1 tires to fit R4 rims.

Good news... I posted on Craig's List to see if someone wanted to buy them or trade R1 tires/rims with my R4 tires/rims + cash. I have someone interested in doing that!

Here's the situation: My tires/rims (12-16.5 & 17.5L-24 loaded with beet juice) one year old (42 hours) and one of the front tires/rims is brand new. The exchange tires/rims are 16 years old and are 14.9-26 (loaded with beet juice) and 9.5-16. One of the front tires is new. Reportedly, there is 85% tread remaining on the other three tires.

Questions:
1.) Are 16 year old rims reliable?
2.) How much additional cash would make it a fair deal?
3.) A tractor tire dealer told me to go with the 13.6-28 tires/rims as they are more standard and readily available.

Thanks!

I would call your dealer sales department as suggested earlier and get the price for the new tire/wheels from Kubota. Then you know what a brand new set of R4's cost ready to be mounted. Knowing this should help you determine a fair trade price or an asking price to sell the R4's outright.

When buying a new tractor, R4's are a $234 price adder over the standard R1's.

Prices below may be outdated, but supplying for reference:

AMXR8860A* F-TIRE 9.5-16 R1 Gdyr Dura Torque 6stud 78 lbs $ 283.00
AMXR8861* R-TIRE 14.9-26 Titan Hi Power Lug TL 254 lbs $ 825.00
AMXR8860A F-TIRE 9.5-16 R1 Gdyr Dura Torque 6stud 78 lbs $ 283.00
AMXR8813A R-TIRE 13.6-28 R1 Titan Hi Trac Lug TL 242 lbs $ 825.00

So looking at $2,216 using values above to have new. I'm certain your tires/wheels have good value in the open market to help recouple some of your cost.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, 200MPH!

I requested a price for a new set of R4 from my dealer. Do I need to be concerned they are 16 years old? I don’t care about cosmetics. I have a 62 year old ford that has calcium chloride in the rears and I just bought new rims. However, my tires/rims are new so I want to be sure I get a fair deal.

So your dealer wants to sell you 16 year old set? A bit confused over the statements above.

Rubber ages without use, so they should not be considered New if 16 years old or priced as such.

200MPH,

Sorry for the confusion, I was simply following your advice to request a quote from the dealer on a new set of R4's/rims from the dealer to assist with setting a fair price on the potential trade. The 16 year old tires/rims are from someone who wants to trade with me. I hope this helps...

I am still dealing with my R4 tires. Very little interest on my Craigslist, FaceBook and OTT listing. In fact, I spent 40 minutes on a call with the implement manager yesterday pleading my case and trying to work out a deal. I even 'sweetened the pot' by saying I'll buy a new DH2596 disc. Despite paying more for the tractor to buy local, being pushed into the R4s and doing all my service/repair work there, the best they are offering is to sell me the R1 tire/rims 'at cost' + shipping. Ugh.

I don't think I am being unreasonable, but maybe I am??? Any advice on how to expeditiously and economically move from my R4s to R1s?

Run your ad for the tires in TractorHouse, Heavy Equipment Trader, Fastline and Machinery Pete. Also there is Tractor By Net.

The dealer giving you the tires at cost plus shipping is a hard pill to swallow but it is the best he will do. He should not have sold you the R4s for ground work.

What kind of price is he giving you on the disk? Tell him you want that he should sell it at cost also to make up for the poor advice on the tires which is costing you some big money.

I just sent you a PM.

Can anyone tell me if the rolling circumference for these tires is compatible for my L4400? Bolt pattern? Rears appear to be correct size, fronts are slightly different.

Also, if I were so inclined to trade, would my R1s fit his MX? Tires are brand new factory R1, 14 hours.

Hope it works out for you. I've had a similar ad for my new L2501 with r4s. I had a guy with a 400 hour L2501 w/r1s that I thought was going to trade for my 50 hour r4s but then he backed out.
The R4s are my only regret with my new L2501. I've always had R1s, and I got talked into R4s, but wish I had stuck with my gut, as I think the R4s are HORRIBLE. Bad in snow, they leave just as many tracks in my yard as the r1s, and don't even get me going about mud!
