i decided to change my front axel fluid at 100 hours on my MX4800. The manual isn't very detailed on how to do it but i still followed it what it said. the capacity its 8.9 quarts, i have 9 quarts on hand and didn't even use half. i started to fill it and it started to leak out of the "full hole" pretty quick, i jacked it up and tipped the axel so it would fill in both side, but i still have about 5 quarts left and most of it drained out. i did remove both drain plugs. does the front axel hold a bunch of fluid in the center of the axel? even though both plugs get removed? i had to let a bunch drain out of the full hole because i did filled it to the hole where you fill the fluid. so i let it drain until it wasn't flowing out of the hole. is it common for them to still hold the older fluid?

I was topping mine off and called the dealer to find out what fluid it had come with from the factory, and he mentioned filling up to inspection port and then driving it a bit and checking again. I think on mine the fluid has to migrate across the middle so may not apply to yours in the same way. Can you measure how much you took out?

i did fill to the inspection port, when i get time ill drive it around more then check it again. i changed oil as well and ended up dumping it all in one pan. hard to say, but i did think it didn't look like 9 quarts which is why i think some might have been left sitting in the middle somewhere. i only have one fill hole, i double checked the manual and physically looked. would it be bad if i had to much in there?
