Wife has an Oct. hunt for a bull in Maine. Probably can't take the Kubota. .300 Savage and .270 taking a ride.

My nephew had a tag last year in the alligash. He was excited as he figured it would be the best zone to get. But when he returned he hadn't see any in the northern most zone. Cow or bull.
Is your tag close to home David ?

Yes, 14. Sister took one with a bow there in 2015. I and my wife took one there in 2016.

I'll be doing a fly in moose hunt in Canada again with my best friend. My choice of gun for elk and moose is my Win Model 70 in .338 Win Mag .

I have no personal experience with a .270, but it seems small for a moose.
My Dad took a large Canadian moose back in the early '60s with a Krag-Jorgensen 30-40 pushing a 220gr bullet. I'm told the moose dropped like a stone.
My Dad said he'd never take another one (at least not that big) because it was so much work to dress, butcher, and haul for three people.

Bullwinkle burgers with fryed onions, yummmmy .270 is good deer gun no doubt, and bullet placement is of course paramount. And I know a lot of Canucks that have used the old 30 30. Me I would take the one you shoot the best, in my case Mdl 70 30.06 with 220 SP,, but I lost it in that boating accident

It is on the low end but I use 150 or 160 gr bullets. There have been 6 taken with my fathers rifle.

.270 is on the low end but I use 150 or 160 gr bullets. .277 as opposed to .308. A lot of people like the 7mm, its only .007 more at .284. Fathers rifle has taken 6.

I have a browning BAR in 30/06.
I bought it new in the late 80's. My favorite of all my firearms. Unless I miss, and I only miss bucks big bucks of course.
It's a point and shoot and roll the the deer over rifle. 30/06 is a great caliber.
But I have a uncle who passed recently at 92 shot more deer then I could count with a Winchester 30/30.

It's amazing how a rifle gets worked up when its pointed at a big buck!
