Lawn correction implement

New tractor and new home - yard is in rough shape.

The yard is established, but full of weeds, ruts and divots. Thankfully it's flat, but it's still merciless to mow with a zero turn or garden tractor.

I'd like to eliminate the divots and the high/low areas. If I have to sacrifice the existing grass, I'm ok with that, it's more weeds than grass anyway.

My thoughts are a land sculptor, but the compact tractor world is new to me so I'd like to ask what implement I could use to tackle this yard and still use it in the future. I'd like to invest in something that I will continually use instead of purchasing an implement that will only be used once for this task.

what do you consider a land cultivator? (Tiller, chisel plow, other?)

how large is the lawn / area you want to smooth over?

I'd vote to get a rototiller. You can smooth your ground up with it pretty easily.

I agree, a rototiller, add a land plane, then a roller ... Add grass seed at the end ...

We have a land plane, box blade, back blade, and landscape rake. A landscape rake could probably take care of the high spots and divots with a few passes. It seems to be the attachment we use the most often here for landscaping projects.

Roto tiller and landscape rake if not a land plane. I have more use for the landscape rake for my particular needs.

I use a spike tooth harrow and a landplane.

And no your tractor does not have enough oomph to run a sculptor successfully.

Thats not bad Bud, if you have bucks for all the toys, go for I say. For my piece of old field I just ran a roller behind the BX when I mowed, wasnt fast the deck set low took care of the big humps the roller squished everything back in to place. Is it a putting green, far from it but at least ya wont break an ankle walking across the yard

Make or buy something like this. Simply take your time and level loose dirt (or sand) to smooth the area.

I like the thoughts of the spike tooth harrow - is there a 48" version of any of these? It appears this implement is intended for farm fields, ball fields, golf courses, etc.

I think this tool will be great if I can find one made for smaller properties and/or tight areas.
