You folks using a land plane (skid steer type), do you put the FEL in float? Am thinking yes but figured I would ask you pros first. Thanks.

I think you should float it unless you need to completely cut out some serious potholes. Float for general and finish work.

Even when floating you can change the aggression with dump/scoop cylinder adjustment, similar to toplink adjustment on 3ph.

So your using a tractor with a SSQA landplane?
If so, you're not going to get the results that a skid steer would get as the geometry of the loader is completely different.

3 point version
I'd much rather drag a land plane off the 3pt rather than the FEL, mainly because of visibility.

That said, I'm really not getting why a QA land plane would not work fine on a QA tractor FEL. A skid steer land plane might be heavier, but fundamentally it's similar.

Not contradicting @North Idaho Wolfman, but now I'm genuinely curious.

A 7 ft land plane is probably 2 ft too big for a BX1880.
Was just a picture to show what style. Think a 6 ft would work though. Missed a used one on FB for a grand. Trying not to buy new. Around $1600 plus for new.

Considering the Land Pride 1548. The 4ft model as the largest for the BX2380. Thinking the +400 pounds plus whatever gravel is being dragged uphill will be the limits of the 2380 which has ~25% more hp than the OP's 1880. JMHO, why push your tractor to max limits. Watched an older YT video of a user using the 1548 on his 2380. For whatever reason he was only grading in the downhill direction. Driveway didn't look that steep.

The Land Pride 1548 is an appropriate size for your BX2380 and certainly for the OP's BX1880. The Land Pride land planes are very nice. I have the 1560 which I use on my LX4020 and going uphill dragging gravel does use some power. Also if you ever plan on using the rippers you want to keep the size of the land plane reasonable.

I would stick with a five foot at most. You really notice the lower HP of the L2501 when doing work up hills, and your tractor is around the same HP I think.
Also, my thought is with the loader mounted blade, you might have trouble steering at some points.

Found some 1548's used in michigan. Land pride doesn't make a new version in 48 inches, according to there web site. Am in no hurry so will keep an eye on CL or FB for used ones. Thanks folks.

Decided to use my skid steer land plane to see it could do what I needed done. I backed dragged. Not to bad. Still plan on finding a used one like the one I posted. Those look like they do a better job.

i would do float. be very careful you can rip your fel apart if something gets a little wonky. a tractor fel is nowhere close to a skidsteer for ruggedness. while it can do it you just gotta go very slow and careful.

tractors just dont have the brute force needed to get the most out of one of those. thats why you see 3 point planes offered and never see skid steer ones recomended

Just class II on my driveway to level out. But can feel the tug. Still want a 3 point to do this. Can buy an adapter to use the 3 point or buy a 3 point version. The adapter would be allot cheaper but adds about 100 lbs to the heavy land plane.

Used land planes are a rare find at my Kubota dealer or through private sellers up here. I think demand is relatively high. Lot of gravel driveways up here. Relatively heavy rainfalls(3.5" over couple days) recently. Was a good rain. Zero damage to the driveway. Blue rock gravel "rocks". And the way too dry woods are now ok. Old gravel road would have had cuts and deep ruts down to the rocky layer. Maybe why land planes are popular. Less money and time in the long run to build a proper base and coat with blue rock. Box blades, grader blades, mowers. Wide choice of different brands.
