Past few months, starts one day, not the next. Replaced old battery, cleaned ALL connections from battery (to include ground) to where wiring off starter enters the firewall. Replaced both micro switches (on fwd - aft shift lever and above parking brake). Cleaned all blades / receivers on all QDs aft of the firewall. Some days key just clicks when start position selected, other times it starts. All PTOs in non engaged position. I unable to discern any logic to failure.... general consensus is to replace the starter relay. Unable to figure out which of the five relays inside the firewall is starter relay. ....damn 'trons. Thx for any help!

Check voltage at the starter's trigger wire with someone trying to crank the engine. Hopefully it'll just click when you check the voltage. If voltage is under about 10v at the small wire, you're going to want to look at the harness or relay. Harness would be my guess. IIRC those old grand L's had 2 or 3 connectors between the front harness and the rear harness, and were known to get a little dirty-causing a voltage drop across the connector. If that's what you find, just clean it and put some dielectric grease in the connector before reconnecting it. Could also be relay, but I don't remember ever having to replace a starter relay on a grand L. Wiring harnesses are a different story.

Oh, just thought of it. Check the ground. That was a poor setup. The ground wire comes off of batt (-) terminal and runs down under the battery box to a frame ground point. Well the battery had a tendency to cause corrosion under there, which gives you a poor ground. To access it, you have to remove the battery and partially remove the radiator support, IIRC, then the tray. Myself, I usually run a new ground down beside the radiator and ground it on one of the unused bolt holes in the frame, just clean it off good.

If someone has access to the WSM for a L3600 I would appreciate getting a copy.

Thanks in advance.
