Hi all,

Recently took over use of a 10 year old L3400 manual 4WD with LA463 front loader from my father-in-law who just passed. Runs great but I'm pretty sure he didn't worry about service ... ever. ~650 hours so i'm basically doing all fluids top to bottom.

Found service manual online, quick clarification. Hydraulic oil / transmission fluid. I feel like an idiot to ask but is this the same system? Manual seems to use the terms interchangeably. They reference hydraulic oil filter but then transmission fluid change (400h) which in my head is 2 separate systems but from the drain plug location seems they are talking the same thing.

Thanks!

Same system. If it was me I'd do the same and change all the fluid and filters including a radiator flush and new antifreeze.

I'd stay away from cheap store fluid and go with SUDT2 or better and use a quality engine oil. Kubota filters would also be a plus but if you go aftermarket make sure you go for quality, not just cheap price.

A tractor that new will last you a life time if it's taken care of.

My personal preference is Chevron All Weather THC Synthetic over UDT or SUDT. Kind of hard to find but I run mine in an ag enviroment and it's been golden.

Thanks agree completely. Mobil-1 10W-30 is where i'm headed for motor oil, meets specs and I prefer synthetic. Been researching UDT ... is there a reliable (affordable) online source or should I look for the original dealer?

I hope you don't mean standard Mobil 1. If so it's not rated for diesel engines. Need to use Mobil Delvac if that's the brand you prefer.

No matter what brand you choose it has to be a diesel oil. Regular gas oil doesn't have the correct additives.

SUDT2, I'd look at Messicks on line or just make a trip to your local dealer.

Well that's damned infuriating. I poured through the manual and the only specs say SAE30, 10W-30 10W-40 and must meet API Service CD, CE, or CF. I checked Mobil-1 site.

Per their site:
According to ExxonMobil, Mobil 1 10W-30 is of the following quality level
General Motors GM 4718M
General Motors GM 6094M
API CF

Guess I have alot to learn here if I can't even trust what i'm reading in the manual. Thanks for the info.
