Hello,

My L2550 will not turn over. I can jump it with my truck or use a plug in charger to start it. I checked the alt with a volt meter and it shows 12.8 V. I cleaned the terminals but it still wont turn over. The idiot light has not come on to show a charging problem. ???

When did this start to happen? All of a sudden?
When you checked "alternator" @ 12.8 volts, I assume it was running at the time? IF not - the battery has one hellva a charge - IF running, then something IS wrong with the charging system.

Have you taken battery out and subbed it out? Taken battery to local auto parts and had it checked?

From what you are describing ......you have a bad battery - or ......poor connections somewhere, safety switch....etc...

When you cleaned the battery terminals did you also clean the other end of the wires, at the frame and stater? May very well have a dirty connection where the ground wire attaches to the frame. Remove it and clean all rust and paint there.

Thanks for the replys. I should have mentioned that the 12.8 volts was at 1500 rpm at 2500 rpm I was able to get 13.8 to 14 volts. I have not cleaned the other end of the cables. What should I get if I check at the alternator?i want make sure it’s not bad. Is this the best way to check it?

13.8 is fine, stick a good battery in with good connections and you're right to go.

As 100 TD said.....your alternator is working well.

The fact that you checked IT at the BATTERY ....says the alternator IS doing it's job.

CLean all the connections ;):)
