So I tumbled into the Kubota world head first but I am always up for a challenge and thoroughly enjoy everything about these tractors and how basic yet functional while compact they are. I do not think I would want a newer BX or B series simply because of this. Anyways..

I went on a 24hr road trip (12hr there, and 12hr back) after I purchased a L2000 near St. Louis for $1000. Tractor was guaranteed to run well, but had a lot of steering issues (which I naturally assumed and blamed the box for).

Here are the pictures of when I purchased it/picked it up.

On the way there, I stopped at a Kubota dealer and found a great deal on a L2040 plow (which is now for sale by the way)

Good time to redo all of the wiring:

Removed the fuses and replaced with marine breakers: (while retaining the oem cover)

After a lot of sanding, and a lot of coats of paint...

After some modifications (12V cig outlet, switch for rear lights) and steering box repaired:

Painted front grille, new top grille and replacement lights (From Princess Auto):

Awaiting new front LH spindle (old one was seized solid, another part of the "small" steering issue)

Let me know what you think! I know its a lot of posts, this has been over the course of the last week or two, and don't mind the mess in the shop, just moved to a new property and havent really had the time to make it home. :)

Well Tom, I diagnosed your steering problem with the first picture......there's no steering wheel!!!!

You certainly like to jump in with both feet, don't you. $1000 is a good price and your restoration looks great. I hope you took care of the steering issue before you put too much time and $$ into it.

I'm currently putting my L-225 back together after replacing the reverse gear and the clutch.

Good luck with your orange tractor and keep the pics coming.

Yep. I had a incorrrect steering wheel (wrong spline), bad steering box (typical bearing gone fishin'), a bad tie rod, broken LH steering arm, and a seized/pitted spindle.

Luckily I was able to put it together with a combination on new parts (bearings, seals) and used parts, for under $350.

Good luck on your project! My next one is installing the loader.

I'm not sure the L2000/L225 pump has enough flow for an FEL. Mine has a separate hydraulic pump that is driven off of the front of the engine and it has it's own resevoir on the back, right FEL frame upright. I think most FELs require a minimum of 5 gpm and I think the pump on my L225 is down in the 3-3.5 gpm range. Something to look into.

FEL is on the tractor, it works great.. it is a bit slow, but thats the only restriction 3.5GPM has on the FEL, pressure is right at 2000psi, so the strength of the FEL has not changed.

I am comfortable with slow for now as I learn to operate the FEL.

great thread
I plan to restore mine also, just more slowly over time.
plan to keep my B1750 till I die, and pass it on to my son...

right now we are just working on mechanical stuff, maintenance, and learning about tractors...
and everything I touch gets either a new part or some special attention, as we want this to be a like new tractor in a few years.

Very nice buy. I would do that in a hear beat.
Great pics. We love pics here and it was great to scroll through them all. Your making the orange proud. :D

I have pics in my "L175 sheet metal work" thread. http://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1533
My tractor was a roll over so there was a lot of damage to repair. I used the tractor as it was till the head busted then went through it all.

My steering wheel was bent badly so I got a new one. The steering gear box was empty but seems ok after filling it up and working it.

Currently I have turf tires but I would like to get an AG set for mine some day. I like the benefits of both so it is hard to settle with one wheel type.

What do you call the original flat metal fuses that were in the dash fuse box with the grey cover? I need two 5 amp fuses and cannot find any info on them. This is the picture of the fuse box you posted. I need fuses or I have no lights.
