So I found an old thread about using the compression release to start the L185DT tractors but it said nothing of whether using it all the time is a bad thing that could result in damage? My question is, will using the compression release all the time, damage the motor? Also, does anyone know where I can get a new compression release cable and knob for a L185DT ? Thanks as always.

Compression release is really used for starting when cold (cold weather as well). It allows the engine to spool up to faster RPM's on the starter and when you turn the compression back on, it should fire the tractor right away.
Now, some newer types (dunno if Kubota's do this), the tractor can actually start with the decompression pulled but it has no power. You turn the compression on and it brings the engine into normal operation.
It should not damage the engine. But do not stop the engine with it. Always shut off a diesel with fuel flow removal. You want the cylinders dead and dry when shut down. Wet cylinders cause carbon fouling.

Thanks guys. I figured it would do no harm using for cold starts and cold weather starts. Just wanted to make sure. DIYDAVE, did your dealer get you the knob and cable? I need the whole assembly. I'll check with the dealer as well. Thanks.
The knob is part of the cable. It's one piece. That piece fits into the flex housing and is connected at the front of the valve cover.
