we had a M9540 8 spd hydraulic shuttle. We were toyin with the idea of building a 2 row john deere vacuum planter for it. We didnt want to build something that would do damage to the tractor or the tractor not being able to run it

I don't see how that tractor couldn't run it, besides maybe the lack available gears?
I guess to give you a more accurate read on it I would need to know the loaded weight of the planter, and is it fully supported by the three point or does it have wheels?

I think that what the OP is looking for is wether the hydraulics on the M9540 is able to run the hydraulic motor needed to run a vacuum planter.
