Kubota 2010 M7040 HDC with 580 hours $ 33,000 , one owner with good maintenance records.

I would look for a pre 2011 (or maybe 2010) and that have absolutely no emission equipment. On another hand that 12 speed transmission would be nice for hay. At 540 rpm on the pto I feel like there is to much of a speed change between L4 and H1.

Because of the emissions/ electronics or other reasons?
Yes 12 gear would be nice but I only be bailing one day a year. Only about 20 acres to hay. I am not much on resale value as I would like to keep the tractor for long time. I have some mechanical skills and would like to teach my kids how to fix things. 7060 might have lot more electronics. Was hopping that previous owners in this forum
of 7040 would share some info on maintaining tractor. I currently have 1999 kubota M8200 open station with 1880 hours but cab in Montana would be nice. Thank you.

If you are comparing almost identical tractors I would always recommend one without DPF. ( unless you specifically want the dpf for some reason) The DPF is going to cost you more money operating the tractor especially in a case like yours where you aren't putting many hours on ( it will require more frequent regens which cost you fuel)

I would recommend tne same as eserv, but for different reasons. I have a 60 series tractor tier IV and the fuel economy is great, even with the regens. I love it. However if you want to tinker with it yourself, the high pressure common rail system and the computer would make it harder. Not impossible, it is about at the level of my 2003 truck, but harder. On the other hand, as NIW once pointed out the self diagnostic tests and error messages can be really helpful.

There are a couple of people with 40 series tractors in the forum, and as far as I can recall they have loved them. If that is a reasonable price, go for it! :)

Thank you both. My reasoning is that I can always pick 7060 in the future but not too many 7040 with low hours.

Both tractors are excellent machines and will give years of service! We seem to have the most problems with DPF equipped tractors when they are used infrequently. I think the problem is that they don't get warmed up adequately so produce more soot which leads to more frequent regens. One level 4 and you need a service tech out to do a forced regen and the fuel economy is out the window! The DPF has been very reliable on these tractors though.

I don't have specific experience with either model or tractor that big. But

1 owner with good maintenance records more simple with no EPA add ons vs a previous rental and 6mth warrantee with more electronics and EPA addons. Nothing against rentals. But an owner that takes the time to keep good records, probably took really good care of the tractor.

I vote for the 40 especially if you are wanting to do the maintaining yourself and repairs as needed. That 6mth warrantee will be long gone before you will need it probably. Then you deal with the EPA stuff and more electronics.

I had a 7040 and now have a 9540. Other than changing fluids I have never done anything to either of the tractors. Between the 2 I have had about 500hrs seat time. Both had around 1000hrs prior to me acquiring them.

Might contact U-Ship online. Need the dimensions of your tractor H,W,L and total weight of tractor and any attachments. Need zip code of where to pick up and where to deliver. State "tractor starts and runs for loading". Need to state pick up date and deliver date. Place bid request.

Some bids will be crazy high. Don't get in a hurry. As a couple days go by some bids will become reasonable. Patience pays off!

When I first used U-Ship I had bought a Polaris Ranger down in Mississippi. Went through the bidding process and ended up with a guy who brought it up was a retired highway patrol officer. I couldn't ask for a more detailed, polite person to haul my toy.

Had my L4240 hauled up from Jackson, Tn at Byrd Implement by a young man who lives West of me a couple of hundred miles for $500. I've kept in touch with him so if I need something hauled I call him directly first.

Using U-Ship has been a good experience for me. The first time was frustrating because you can not communicate with the prospective hauler until you agree to hire them. I didn't like that, but they're protecting their pocket book.

Glad you got your tractor in good condition at a competitive price and timely. What else can you ask!!

Starting to researching about the Egr valve. Any suggestions?

Are you sure it has an ERG Valve. Older models did not have any emissions equipments. If it has an EGR the model # will have a -1 at the end. Ex: M7040HDC-1
