I bought an old beat up L-2550 ,11 years ago real cheap , have used it for everything from mowing to roto-tilling . only recently had first issue with a sheared steering gear pin.
now want replace the fuel injectors because one started leaking & after tightening it up the engine started to, Knock - all I
can assume is that that injector has completely failed and what I'm hearing is a dry piston slap? if anyone else has
had this experience please advise me. also : looking on - line at fuel injectors and none of them look like mine ?
my Kubota serial # is L-2550 11310 & I have no idea how old it is - any info would help
this is my first time on any web site - Not computer savvy . thanks

From Kubota dot com the injector are 17391-53000 for one version of the L2550. There are several versions and I did not compare them.

There are several parts involved with each individual injector so I would probably replace most of them when installing the new one. If not too expensive you might want to replace all three.

I would go to your local dealer and have them order the parts by the serial number of the tractor. The one you posted is not recognized by the website so I assume it is in an incorrect form not an incorrect number.

You can also get rebuilt injectors fro Oregon Fuel injector service.

Do not buy cheap aftermarket parts from the internet. They don’t work well.

Thank you for getting back to me with the parts diagram - ( I purchased a parts manual online awhile ago ) & it shows the same diagram . Unfortunately the long pencil type of injectors are in my L-2550 -mine are a short type with a solid one piece fuel rail .
I did take your suggestion & brought one of the local Kubota dealer & service center yesterday, along with photos on my phone of the machine serial # L-2550 - 11310 , and the engine ID # D-1402 - 3967 and after
spending a lot of time looking on the computer, all four of the parts & service men could not find a injector that I could use.? The eldest tech did say that mine 'resembles the injectors found in the New machines'
Still at a lose for answers and help. Evidently there are a lot of variations of the D-1402 engine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !!

That is a strange problem you have but can you get 3 injectors of the correct style and swap them out? Do you know if the long ones will fit?

Or can you have the ones you have rebuilt locally or at some place like Oregon Fuel Injection?

I wonder if the head could have been changed. The L2600 also has a D1403 but it is indirect injection where the L2550 is direct injection, according to Tractordata. I don't know if the heads would interchange.

Are there any markings on your injectors?

Maybe @North Idaho Wolfman will pitch in.

Sounds like someone has swapped the engine for an older V1402 IDI.

Here is the style of injectors you need, but don't buy them, there are tons of bad ones out there.
Pull your injectors and take them to a local fuel injection shop or send them to Oregon fuel injection to have them rebuilt.

hey guys Thanks for jumping in & trying to help me out , This Old Tractor has become a Nightmare lately - which is sad because it has run well without issues for the last 11 plus years mowing ,bush hogging & tilling more than 44 acres .
so here is the update as of today, I took Russell's advice & took the injector to our local Kubota dealer about 22 miles away ,they told be they couldn't match it up unless I had the engine # and told me where else to look, I found the Engine # D1402-39676 stamped on the cylinder head just above the injector pump , with that information they called me back just before they closed up & gave me this injector part # 16082-53903 !! Great then the real news he quoted me $ 290.58 each X 3 would come to $ 924.05 not including shipping because they would need to be ordered !!!!
Not to sound cheap but I only paid $ 1400.00 for the tractor !!
They did at least suggest to look on Amazon & Ebay because of the outrageous cost ?
so I asked my wife ( the internet / computer person of the house ) to find & order them and the attached photos are what we got from Ebay.
here's the Crazy part , on July 3rd I put this machine in the barn to change the Engine oil & hydraulic fluid & filters etc including the fuel filter which I have done every year since we've had it , when starting it back up I noticed diesel fuel dripping & followed it back to the forward most injector . . .the leak was between the fuel return rail & the base of the injector & once I tightened it up to stop the drip and re-started the engine it started blowing white smoke and skipping / miss firing ! after asking the advice of a neighbor who has a diesel he suggested just replacing the injectors - due to the age of the machine . Here I am a month later - with no tractor .
I still Need Help . going to send the small injectors back - hope they take them ?? $$$
I still have No idea how old this tractor is, nor did the guy I bought it from - there was no paperwork or title or any of that just cash & a hand shake ? if anyone can tell from the numbers that I have I would appreciate it .

Yes you ordered the wrong injectors, and if you keep trying to buy cheap eBay and Amazon Injectors your going to keep getting the wrong injectors or Junk injectors.

I'll say it one more time:
You need to either take your original injectors to a local injection shop and have them rebuilt or get a set from Oregon Fuel Injection, there is no way around it.

I also gave you the part number for the right injectors, 15221-53030 if you wanna keep rolling the dice on getting knock off Injectors that pee fuel out of them or pop at the complete wrong pressure.
And dollars to doughnuts the reason the overflow fitting is leaking is not the injectors fault it's the line or fitting has cracked, so don't be too surprised that a new set of injector leaves you in the same spot.

RHG you need to seriously consider this advise!!!!!! I'd send them to Oregon fuel Injection. They are excellent with service, reliability and cost. I bought an injector pump from them a few years back. The pump cost 1/3 of the cost at Kubota dealer, including shipping. Kubota would require prepay and wait for them to get it. OFI had it to me in a few days. Your mileage may vary, but I doubt it!

hey Wolfman;
rabbit hash guy here, I finally got a little gutsy & disassembled my existing injectors one at a time and
WoW : I discovered that the forward most injector - ( the one with the original leak problem ) was Missing the small spacer disk altogether ?!? the disk measures 1.7mm X 11.3mm dia. so how did this thing run so well for the last 11 years or so? anyway I did take your advice & the part # and went back to the Kubota dealer and ordered a replacement injector. the others I just cleaned real well and will reinstall them today.
the dealer says it may be another week before the new one gets here in Kentucky.
meanwhile while the wait is on I thought it a good time to adjust the valve clearances / tappets but everyone on you tube suggests a different clearance for a D-1402 engine ,? what are your thoughts on the 1395cc engine valve settings/
thanks again for your advice.

to everyone ;
after a lot of cleaning with brake cleaner and an old toothbrush ( oh and I found the little missing disk), put everything back together , bled the fuel system - the old tractor started right up and is running Great !
many Thanks to everyone who provided some ideas .

now I have another issue that I could use some advice on: our property is very hilly & steep making mowing or bush hogging very tippy and Scary . So far I have had the rear tires filled for ballast, installed a ROP system from Kubota, reversed the rear tires to the widest foot print available, & added some suitcase weights to the front. the owners manual shows that its possible to widen the front wheel out to 49.6 "
which would really help stabilize the machine on our steep areas . my problem is the solid inner part of the adjustable length tie rods Will Not Budge at all - I've soaked them in penetrating oil for over a week & tried to loosen & pull the solid end out of the hollow tube end with no success ? Has anyone else had this issue with an old Kubota L2550 , 2 WD ?

Widening the rear wheel width will help on steep terrain, but widening the front axle doesn’t have the same effect.

Adjustable front axles are more designed to accommodate varying row widths for cultivation of crops.

The front axle pivots on the frame, so it doesn’t have the same effect as the fixed rear axle.

Widening won’t likely hurt anything, but may not produce the desired result that widening the rear axle accomplishes.

It may be more important to limit cross-slope travel wherever possible in favor of traveling up and down slopes.

Hey RCW ,
thanks for that info, I guess I was under the wrong impression ( & some ill advice ) about widening the front wheels.
it will certainly be a lot easier for me to just put the front end back to it's original setting. thanks again
