K008-3 mini excavator will not start. Has good fuel supply, and good fuel pressure from fuel pump to injector pump. Removed fuel line from injector 1, got nothing coming out of injector pump. Same on other two injectors. Tried to disconnect fuel line from injector pump output but could not break the compression fitting loose. However, I WAS able to loosen the security torx screws for the first cylinder fuel line off the injector pump and pulled that assembly out of the pump.
I cranked the engine over and saw fuel swirling around inside the injector pump from where I removed this assembly. However, I expected to see fuel squirt out of the injector pump, not necessarily under a lot of pressure given that the hole where assembly was is about 1" diameter. But I at very least expected fuel to overflow there. Nope.
Am I wrong in my thought there should have been SOME pressure there? Or does the removal of that assembly prevent the buildup of pressure?

Well I can tell you this, removing security torx screws should have warned you of something... something like don't remove these!

The only way that pump will be any good from here on out is to send it to a rebuilder that can retime the pump! The delivery valves have safety torx for a reason.

And no you won't get any real fuel out of the injection pump with the delivery valve assembly removed!

Your problem is more than likely something to do with the fuel stop solenoid not letting the fuel rack open.

FYI: If you disregard what I said about the pump, just throw the parts back in it, you have a 1 in 100 shot you'll get it close enough not to do permanent damage to the engine as over / under fueling or bad fuel timing can do some serious damage.

Welcome to OTT
DITTO what NIW stated. When you R&R inj pump be sure & utilize same amount & thickness of shims when reinstalling the IP.

Well Wolfman, removing those screws did not do me any harm. Turns out the problem was mostly caused by water in the fuel. And a really dirty fuel filter. After draining the fuel tank and letting it sit with a heater running on it for a week I replaced filter and new fuel. After some cranking and nursing it with care engine now starts right up.
Those torx screws only removed the fuel line header from the pump body. At no time had I removed any other parts from pump, nor had I removed pump from engine.

Well good to hear.
