RCW, don't feel left out! My nephew has been telling me about some feature on FaceBook where he buys and sells. So he "set" it up on my phone. I told him I didn't want to know everyone's business and didn't want them to know mine. Keep a low profile, but be able to list things to sell.

It's nothing but a pain. Next morning I was out early welding and my phone starts beeping, and beeping, and beeping. I finally quit for a minute to see if it was something important, since it was so early. Nope, just FB BS. Now I got to get it off, I don't want everyone sending me a thumbs up, or be my buddy request! And all this and I still don't hve anything listed to sell. Can't imagine what my phone would be doing then!

I am 57 yrs old, so I remember the days when you called someone and they didn’t answer, you tried again the next day. Then came the answering machine, and you called 5hem the next day. I had a cell for 20 years cuz i was n3ver home and sure made a lot of things happen. Now I am glad i was able to cancel cell plan, and go back to just the home phone. I do tote an Ipad w wifi only pretty much everywhere if I am on the road. A stop with free wifi, and i can check in with wife while out n about, or google info as needed.

RCW, I know exactly how you feel.

I worked in IT most of my life and led the push for everything new and improved and saw to it that my children knew how to work all things IT. My son is in charge of an IT Help Desk for a pharmaceutical company.

Now that I am retired, I want nothing to do with it anymore and my youngest daughter is always asking me when am I going to get with the program and catch up. I tell her I am happy with 10 year old techknowledgey.

I bought a dehumidifier from Home Depot the other day. (The 30 year old Emerson finally gave up the ghost)

The warantee needed registration, and the directions said "Just take a picture of the receipt with your smart phone, and text it to the 5 digit number provided.

I took the picture, initiated a text, attached the photo, and touched the send arrow.

The response on my phone was a message that Sending MMS messages to that type of address was not permitted.

I wasn't going to get in the middle of a fight between two technologies, So I used the phone to call them up and register with the spoken word. Seems so much more real! ;-)

Technology IS the answer! What was the question?.....

The text being permitted or not permitted is in your settings. Some carriers charge a fee for the text service to the 5 digit numbers. I believe its something you can turn on or off in the messages settings. My phone warns me that there may be charges for responding to those texts. But since I use a pay as you go plan with 1 fee unlimited everything for the month, I don't worry about charges :D

My vets office and doctors office have gone to similar systems that text your mobile phone and ask for a confirmation back to confirm appointments. Vets office goes one step further and texts me to let me know when one of my dogs is coming due for its shots.

My phone costs me $11 per month, with unlimited voice and text. Data is unlimited too, as long as it's WiFi! ;-)

Facebook is a whole 'nother thing....my kids set me up a page years ago. Not smart enough to get rid of it, but haven't looked at it long, long time. I did tinker with it for a month or two, and got bored with it. I'm sure it's changed a lot over the years.

I know people that spend hours/day just staring at what other people are doing (or not doing in favor of looking at FB?).

I wonder if they report that they spent X hours gossiping on Facebook?!?!?!:confused:

I spend time here, true, but to me OTT is MUCH more than eavesdropping on other peoples' activities.

Who do you use? That's much better then my $50 per month
Republic, Wireless data can be purchased in blocks any time using the phone.
I do that when I travel. Unused data $ are credited to the account, so there is no "waste".

I guess I'm an odd one... I love my smart phone, pretty much always have.

I don't do facebook, so maybe that helps me not wanting to chuck my phone. :D

Facebook will make you want to pull out your phone, chuck it, kick it, then smash it to bits with a sledge hammer ;)

Company contracted with Facebook and up and run a company wide Facebook site just for them. Registered all of us on it, turned on every bloody notification, set up our phones with an active app. Then had the IT department email all the employees. The settings for the email sent it to our spam folders.

The only folks that knew about it were upper management and a select bunch of people to beta test the site. When they made the site active, I was butt deep into a piece of equipment in a position that would make a contortionist proud. Only thing hangi g out was my knees down. I was repairing a wiring harness.

All of a sudden my phone in my pants pocket started ringing, beeping, and vibrating. For 20 minutes while I was stuck in this machinery not being able to reach my phone  They sent through seperate emails and alerts for every flipping post, message and like for when the system was being beta tested  It actually took almost 45 minutes for everything to come through.
