I am looking for a 48" finish mower, I have a k 348-7 that need a rear mower spindle, the repair shop want $450 to replace bearings and a pulley o the deck, I thought I would buy another and use it for parts.
I agree with this. I got a pretty decent Ford 905 auger with my B7100. It's a bit big for it, but bigger/heavier is often good on an auger in hard soil. But the gear box was locked up hard, so I basically got him to throw it in to close the deal. It was a bit of a pain getting it all apart, particularly with seized bearings, but in the end it cost me about $100 for all new tapered bearings (4 of them) and 2 seals. Those are new premium name brand (Timken and SKF), could have been done cheaper with budget parts and/or ebay(etc) careful shopping. Everything else was fine, very much like new in fact, so I'm pretty satisfied.Welcome to OTT!
Are you mechanically inclined? Spindles aren't hard to rebuild, as long as you can get the proper parts. If you have an industrial supplier, they should be able to get you the bearings, races, and seals for it. You can rebuild them for a LOT less than $450.00.
