My 2650 snow blower lift cylinder is controlled off of my loader valve. So when I want it down, of course I want it to "float" and the valve has the position for that and all, but I don't like that I have to jam the blower down as the lever is moved into the float position. What if I just left the hydraulic line that extends the cylinder disconnected? The blower weighs about 300 lbs. and I really don't need to have any down pressure at any time. Could I just drain out that line and leave it disconnected?

Well I can lower it slowly, but to get to the float position, you have to open the valve full and go beyond the stop and lock it in float. The cylinder has only a little travel, so within a second the blower is on the ground and lifting the front and then when it's in the float position, the front will of course drop back down.
I hate that. It jams the blower into the ground.

Slowly lower the snow blower all the way to the ground or just a hair off of the ground and since the lever is almost at the float position, then put the lever in float position. Easy as pie. Nothing slams to the ground or lifts the front end. I do this all the time with the FEL.

I don't get it. I can jam the FEL lever from neutral through "down" to float in the wink of an eye. Not a whole lot of oil makes its way through the valve to the cylinder.

I don't know. Something must be wrong then. Mine will drop down and then lift the front wheels off the ground and then release when I push it up to the float position. I'm thinking the problem is in the valve because it doesn't react right away when I move it to float. It's kinda hard to push it into this position like I'm going to break something.

I wasn't trying to be a smart a$$ in my first post but I know on my loader I can go into float and never move the bucket. If your control is stiff and kind of crunchy feeling it has probably got moisture down in it and now is rusted up. If your valve is like mine the lower side has a tube that comes off and needs cleaned and lubricated. Losts of small parts that will fly out everywhere if you're not carefull. Don't try removing it in the grass. I believe Butch has gone into detail about doing this service on a couple of different threads. Might do a search for one of those and get some helpful information.

O.k. fixed it. The problem was in the linkage. If I would have kept using it like that, the lever would have busted off. Anyway, thanks for the help. Here's a picture of my rig. It's not anything like that now though, all snow and ice. Blower works great.
