Just got my first Kubota. A 99 B2400 4wd HST W/600 hrs. Love it. But the hydraulics pump makes a lot of noise. Never had a HST tractor before. Is this whining noise that gets louder as you apply power (speed etc) normal? Seems louder than the engine at times. Everything works fine, plenty of power. Just need a little info.
Thanks,
Great site here!

Most likely normal especially on the smaller tractors. But just to be sure just the hydraulic fluid level they can be even louder when its too low.

I know the whine seems to be inherent on the small tractors, but like he said check the fluid level,, and your next fluid change use the SUDT 2 it makes a world of difference in the noise,

These guys are correct. If you don't know the service history, change the fluid so you have a baseline service interval. From experience, I too strongly recommend SUDT2, like skeets said.

I changed mine early, and the new stuff took a good part of the whine away.

Also, make sure you're using enough RPM. Mine can be noisier if I don't have enough throttle, especially in high-range.

Thanks folks, No idea of the maintenance history. I changed all the other fluids, coolant, filters etc. Was planning to do the Hydraulic fluid next. The same SUDT2 in the front axle too? Are Kubota OEM filters the best?

I see it holds a total of a little over 3 gals. Never was able to get the full spec'd amount in anything, due to some staying in. Will the 2.5gal jug be enough for a change? Is there a Good place online to get the stuff? or just try to find a dealer??

Thanks again for all the "orange" expertise.
Had to sell my old big Massey due to knee surgery on the clutch knee. This HST Kubota is sure easy to operate.

yes - you can all around - I would use K filters, and I would use the SUDT2 also

Make sure you check the suction strainer on right side of transmission. It is just a stainless mesh tubular screen, but if never cleaned, it could have a lot of debri on it.

You may need to add sound deadening to the cab.

SUDT2 is Kubota full synthetic hydraulic fluid, costs a ton, but most have said there was a dramatic drop in noise in the HST when they switched to it! ;)
