I have a 2008 mx5100 2-wheel drive. Do I have shuttle shift and if so how do you use it ? The only tractors that I have operated the older fords 3910 & 2000 it was clutch all the way.

A synchronized shuttle shift just means you don't have to come to a complete stop before changing directions though you will want to be stopped or going very, very slow. You will need to use the clutch for changing directions as well as from one gear to the other. I am pretty sure the synchronization mentioned in certain gears just allows you to upshift/downshift on the go.

1-2-3 and back the tractor must be stopped and clutch in. 3-4 is synchronized like a manual vehicle, and still needs to be clutched.

Forward to reverse and back is as stated, no clutch, but you do want to be almost stopped before switching. I'm not sure how the f-r functions, but I'd probably be nearly stopped and clutch it anyway just to prolong the life of the system. Treat it like an Auto....you wouldn't throw a car from D to R and back at speed now would you?

The shuttle allows you to change from forward to reverse without manually clutching, it uses a wet clutch to achieve this, and it is much stronger and less prone to wear like the manual dry clutch disk. It's about a 10:1 ratio on wear.
The newer tractors have completely done away with the dry cutch and went to full wet clutches on both the drive and PTO.

A synchronized shuttle shift requires the foot clutch to be depressed to change directions, a hydraulic shuttle shift does not, the clutch is activated by the forward/reverse lever or foot clutch, we have owned/own both types in addition to a non synchronized shuttle shift.

TripleR nailed it, there's a huge difference between synchro shuttle and hyd shuttle. :D

The MX5100 has a synchro shuttle with dry clutch which means you have to depress the clutch pedal to shift. :)
