Alright guys looking for some direction to head here. I have a Kubota m5400 the pto would work fine until warm and then tall grass could stop the Bush hog. Hooked up a gauge to the PTO valve and only had 70 PSI at WOT. Pushed the lever a touch farther and quickly got 375 PSI. So adjusted linkage, and tightened down. Now the problem is I don't believe it is completely shutting off, at high RPM's the PTO will still spin out of the frame just as if its on. So its either not on enough or way to much, there seems to be no fine line. The adjustment screw on end of valve doesn't seem to change pressure at all either.

Any Suggestions??

Looking into it.
Do you have the WSM?
And if you do, what does it say for recommended pressure?

What kind of maintenance has been done?

How many hrs on machine?

Hrs on hyd fluid and filters?

What kind of fluid did you use?

All fluids fresh, New Filters Hydro filters included all Kubota brand all less than 20 hours ago

1300 hours

UTD fluid

Has new Hydraulic pump also within last 20 hours. all hydraulics otherwise work perfect.

I bought this tractor with a bad pump, and replaced that.

Is it now holding a load when hot?

Pat

Yes it will. but when disengaged will still spin as if its on at High RPM. Can back the linkage back to where it will disengage, but then back to same old story of not enough pressure to engage the pto clutch when hot.

I am wondering if the the lever for the valve is loose on the shaft and you have to over rotate to compensate and vice versa when back to it's original setting.

I suspect that you have a problem with your control cable. Disconnect both ends of it and see if it moves freely full stroke both ways.

It does move freely both ways. its like when set for it to fully disengage it needs another 1/4"-1/2" range of motion to fully engage.
I am wondering either A. if the valve is maybe trashy and not opening soon enough?
or B the cable is stretched out too long over time.

I finally spoke with a tech. He says the PTO valve lever should not impact the amount of pressure I have by pulling it further in motion, (gain or loose pressure by the farther it is pulled) it should either have the pressure it needs, or not(be off), and believes the valve is dirty. Can anybody second this process?

I believe I had narrowed it down to needing a new valve and or pto clutch. Had a guy offer me enough $$ for the tractor I was happy.(He done tractor work on the side, figure he wasn't scared to split it down) and I went and picked up a m6800 newer in better condition up the road for almost the same money. Life is well and the 5400 is someone elses headache now.
