Hella lights

Has anyone installed Hella lights on their tractor? I have a extra set of 500FF's that I bought for my jeep so I am thinking about putting them on the B2601.

These lights are bright at 55 watts each. I figure around 4.5 amps each, they have an inline fuse and hook directly to the battery via a relay.

I would mount them on the ROPS using a clamp on bracket or magnet.

As long as that relay shuts off when you stop the tractor it would probably be OK. It wouldn't take very long for a 9 amp draw to kill the battery if the engine wasn't running.

5 years ago I would say hell yes!!!!

But I will tell you - the newer LED's will be brighter and draw a lot less amps!

But ifn you got'em - use what you got !!! You are on the right track with the relay - and even straight to the battery so you could use them if tractor was off too. Even 9 amps would not kill that battery if used for a short time:D

Thanks for the replies.

I was planning on an LED set but today I spotted this brand new set just sitting on the shelf, I hate to not use them.

The relay is powered from a switched source such as the headlights. I could go off the battery to a switch then to the relay also. Either way it will be switched power.

I don't have any LED lights to compare with the Hella's but they are bright. I have the standard 500's on my jeep that I used to illuminate deer early in the morning on the way to work and they worked well for that. The FF's are a wider beam so I am hoping they will be good work lights.

Those light will kill your alternator and or battery, the alternator on your tractor will not keep up with them even for short runs. :(

Yea I kind of wondered about that. I haven't done a power survey yet or looked up the specs on the alternator.
I was hoping to read where someone has done it successfully.

Maybe it will handle one light.

Can you swap out the bulbs with led retrofit ones? May be able to reduce the current draw and use your new old stock lights.

Your alternator on the B2601 is a 40 amp version - you will be fine with those lights, but then again I dooooo like the newer LEDS!

I had a set of those Hellas on a Ford F250 with a rocker switch on the 4 speed, they would light up the night for sure;)

here is the info on your B2601 :

I had a pair of 55 watt halogens (not Hella) on my B7500 for several years and did not have any power issues with them. I replaced them with LEDs last year because the lighting is better from the LEDs.

Thanks for the link. Good to know its 40 amps.
Yes they do, I really like them. I really like the LEDs also. Guess I am going to have to think this one through.:)

Did you notice a huge difference after stitching to LEDs ?

There definitely was a big difference between those old 55w halogens that I had and the LEDs. The lower current also allowed me to add two rear facing LED work lights.
