That's a good machine, not too old. 1250 hours is a bit, but not too much. Depends if they're easy hours or hard hours. Has it been stored inside? What condition are the hoses and rubber bits (including tires)? What condition the paint work? Do the joints have slop, or do they look like they've been well greased over its life?

Any comments/advice on acquiring and using the 4740 with 1250 hrs on it?
A lot depends on price and what you expect to get out of it.

How would you feel about a 2010 Toyota Camry with 100K on the clock? Parts and service on the Camry would be a lot less expensive and far easier to source....

Pre emissions tractors are definitely worth looking at. 1250 hours is not that many for a 10 plus year old tractor. If in good shape and priced right, it’s definitely worth considering buying. Tractor isn’t that old to worry about parts issues, at least no more than anything else in given the current supply chain issues.

The 1250 hours is insignificant if the tractor has been serviced properly. Some may think that's getting on the high side, but probably only because many small tractor owners do small odd jobs and never run the tractor for hours/days at a time. If one looks around there are tractors with 5-20K hours on the engine with very few problems.

For a 10-15 year old KUBOTA tractor parts are not an issue at all.

New price was a bit under 30K and it will probably sell for 3/4 of that price today if it is clean and cared for.

Just for reference, I am a "weekend warrior" and I am on track to do about 100-125 hours per year.

So if it was maintained properly, and used properly, I don't think thats too many hours.

Like PaulL said, look it over well.

My Dad taught me many, many years ago to look at how the guy keeps his other stuff as a reference on how he kept this.

IMHO, thats probably the best indicator of if it was "used" or "abused".
