On that subject, curious to know if anyone has replaced the barrel on their grease gun to one of the clear plastic ones? Would be nice to see the actual amount of grease in the gun and in my case (because I have a couple different ones with different greases), seeing what is inside instead of labeling them.

I see Amazon offers them and been thinking about getting a couple but before I do, I'd like some first hand experiences, pro or con.

I can imagine how 'clear' it will be after a few tubes have been run though it. Maybe it is just me but it seems grease gets EVERYWHERE, sometimes where I want it too:p.
My suggestion for those with multiple grease guns with different types of grease, use a band of colored tape on the grease barrel to ID the contents.

We had equipment that had Lincoln Automatic Autoluber greasers on the that had a clear polycarbonate reservoir. You could easily check the amount of grease left in it by a quick glance. I didn***8217;t know anyone made a grease gun barrel that was clear. I would think it would be handy.

That's what I do.

One with good grease and one with cheap grease.

I think the point was how much grease not what flavor.
I would like to have a way to tell the amount also as I am always running out half way thru a greasing! Hate restarts.

Jeff, I can't visualize how having a clear view of the grease in the tube will help you not run out of grease in the middle of a job. You hate restarts, but don't you use the entire tube before discarding? Do you load your grease guns from a bucket?

Won't work with tube grease but I bulk load from a 150 pound or 50 pound pail. Don't think I've purchased tube grease in at least 10 years, maybe longer.

I'll try to find the Amazon link and post it.

Here is the Amazon link....

Not only is the barrel clear but the end caps come in various colors. IO'm thinking they would be a good alternative to the solid metal tubes, especially when running low. One thing I really don't like is running out of grease in the middle of a greasing session and then having to refill the gun and purge the air out to get grease again.

12 bucks is pretty cheap.

I'm just wondering if all grease gins have the same thread pitch on the head and follower. and as far as not being able to see inside, if the follower seal is working correctly, it will 'wipe' the barrel as you consume grease.

One issue I have with bulk loading is determining when the barrel is full. If you overfill, the grease goes past the follower seal and makes a mess. I've made that mess many times.
