A dealer replaced the clutch. I bought it because they couldn't get the PTO to engage and stay engaged properly. Can the one way shaft assembly be removed once the clutch pack is removed?

On the GF models the PTO case is on the front of the front axle and both the clutch and the one way clutch are in the same case.

Before opening it up make sure the input shaft is spinning, and then on removal make sure all the splines and couplers are good.

I am having the same issue, sometimes it engages some times it does not. Where is the clutch located? I am new to lawn tractors in general, I bought a house and it came with a g1800 with a 48 inch deck. Would like to get this fixed because it is quite frustrating.

I know this thread is a number of years old but know we have experts here and need your help. My GF1800 engaged the pto fine, then I disengaged a couple minutes later reengaged and absolutely nothing. I took the PTO apart today day gound the clutchpack looked ok. I then noticed very fine metal particles at the bottom of the case. I noticed that when I spun the aft one way clutch spline it dpun both ways. Prior to taking the pto apart i confirmed the mid shaft between hydraulic pump and pto shaft both spun. I confirmed after removing pto case that splines on the pump to pto shaft are fine. Is the spinning both ways on the one way clutch shaft the issue. Cant figure out how to rrmove the bearings on that shaft without damaging them? Thanks!!!

PTO engages occasionally, but not predictable. Anyone have any experience? PTO clutch is new, hydraulics work fine.
Mine does that! The cause is in the hydraulic lever! If the lever is pushed too far oil will by pass circulate! I pull the lever back and this fixes the problem!

Are we still not allowed to revive old threads here?
Yes you can certainly revive an old thread, BUT before you do I suggest a couple of things to think about before you do.

1) if you want to ask the question “what was the fix for your problem”, see if that poster is even still active. You do that by clicking on the poster’s name in their post. It will show you the last time that member posted. I will suggest that most threads that don’t have a final resolution already posted, that member did not stay active, they posted questions and may have gotten the answers they needed to resolve the issue so just moved on.

2) If you do revive an old thread, then STATE that you are reviving an old thread so that if someone reads your post, they know it is an old thread since some people assume they are reading current posts and will try to read the whole thread and start making new suggestions that are not really going to help the poster that will never see them.

Thanks for the permission, although I wasn't aware that's how forums worked.

In relation to your answer number 1; why would it matter that they are active, if they get an alert and answer it adds value to the forum because the question has then been answered. Also, it could revive the person's interest in spending time/contributing to the forum, which also gives the owners added monetary value to their site.
Answering as nick did just pushes people away from the site that may have stuck around, look at his posts and when he left. Putting "please please" at the beginning of a post doesn't make it any more inviting when the content of that post is as it was.
As for your response number 2; great idea to let others know it's an old thread, thar being said it's quite hilarious watching all the guys respond to it as if it's new. But once again it adds value to the site in various ways and it may even get the question answered. Is there anything worse than reading to the end of a multi-page thread about an issue you're having and then not getting an answer.

I actually came here because I was trying to find an answer to an issue a friend was having on his BX(sorry I don't have the actual model right now). He had hit a stick when mowing, then it jammed up and shut off the mower. He removed the stick and then it would start just fine, but as soon as the deck was engaged it would stall. I checked that the seat switch was good/working and then I engaged the rear pto without the front pto on to make sure no other safety switches were bad, the rear worked just fine, so no safety switches were bad. I then had him engage the mower deck and realized the left blade was not spinning. After that we dropped the deck and I found that there was a lot of debris under the pulley/belt cover and it must have been shocked loose when he hit the branch and then jammed that pulley. Cleaned all that out(this was the fix), greased all the mandrels, tensioner, and the loader assembly, pto shafts, changed his oil really quick while the deck was off. Reinstalled the deck and it now works perfectly.
Hope this helps someone.

I was not permitting anything, just answering the question you asked in post #14. I have no control over what can and cannot be posted on this forum so therefore cannot grant permission or deny permission to post. I thought I was being nice about it but you seem to be mildly offended, so I apologize.
