Bermuda grass again? Do you think we can squeeze a little more moisture out of El Niño?
Yes and yes. I have until April 15th to decide whether to drop off paperwork with county tax office, for Ag property tax conversion to wildlife management. Honestly, I'm really thinking of flipping a coin at this point. That also means I could lose schedule F write offs with the IRS, further reducing livestock/none.
It appears like we're gonna have another dry summer. Maybe a tropical storm(s) will hit and bring week(s) of summer rain(s).

I noticed yesterday that the agricultural termites are already active, not good. USDA future forecast already said drought persistant through summer.

This morning on RFDTV advertisement for FFA, heard a segment that was “God Made a Farmer.”

Probably well known to many, but first I’d heard it.

Well done by whatever artist that did it.

Yup! I listened to him for many years.

Yep that’s it.

Never listened to Paul Harvey before but enjoyed it today. 👍

Made me think of my grandfather and father.

My brother and I were expected to work on our farm and did so. It’s what farm kids did.

I’ve always listened to hard rock….heck my dog is named after a rock star. …😉

I can hear Paul Harvey's voice with the words "and God made a farmer". Loved listening to him so many years ago.

My youngest son is pretty smart, I'm gonna see if he can use Paul Haveys voice using AI. I have a really cool short story version about the latest adventures of The Laundry Fairy.

It's hard to imagine in this day that some Texas schools only taught up to the 8th grade education!!

After completing 8th grade, it was up to the students, parents, neighbors, and friends to transport the kids to adjacent towns with high schools.

In 2022, this small school introduced its first high school for grades 9th to 12th. Currently, the high school has freshman and sophomores, and next school year, it will have juniors. By the fall of 2025, it will have its first senior class.

The school hasn't had a Fine Arts program since 1985.

The school currently has less than 500 kids in grades ranging 1st to 10th.

Nearly 40 years later, the Fine Art program will start again at the school.

Every high school student is required to take one Fine Arts credit in order to meet Texas graduation requirements.

Starting in the fall of 2024, the school will have one awesome art teacher, Mrs. SIESTA SUNDANCE!!

This school is less than a 15min drive from the farm. I met with the realtor and photographer today at our house in town, it will be on the market before Spring break!

For the next month or so we’re a maple farm.

Hard to see, but there’s tubing throughout our woods. About 140 taps the neighbor puts in on a couple of our acres.

Tapped in today, and bet the sap is running.

He does 1,000 taps or so.

Very Nice, next time I'm up that way, I'd like to buy a 1/2 gallon jug.

Depending on the home sale, we might make a month trip this summer and head back up to NB and Newfoundland area.

Nice - our producer is a couple miles down the road and sells year round roadside.

In our area local producers commonly sell that way. Big at Farmers markets too.

Seen same in Vermont as well.

@Daren Todd knows, there’s nothing like pure Maple syrup. He’s an Arkansas guy now, but started in Vermont.

The “light” or “light amber” syrup is the cherished premium grade, but frankly I prefer it a darker medium amber. Just tastes much more hearty with a better maple flavor.

When I made a few gallons per year here, I gave away the “good” stuff and kept the darker stuff…. 🍁
