Just 7 this year, drought still got me scared from last year. I had 13 plus 8 calves last year, all went to auction last May.
Seven is still a lot when water is scarce……bovine need a lot of water.

Wishing you the best of luck.

Lows in the high 70s, ugh. Ours are still in the 60s, so far. We've had a mild spring this year.
The heat indexes(feels like temperature) has been busting records. Nothing like stepping outside and it feels like a hair dryer is blowing in your face.

We have the dry here in SE Kansas. I had to move the calves because there is no water in the ponds.
We don’t have anything close to that heat. Wow! Hang in there.

Likewise!

We are all praying for rain or atleast a tropical distrubance to show up in gulf to bring us rain. Just had lunch with a big cattle rancher, he has had to feed hay for the past 2 years. He is about to reduce his herd to minimal numbers and wind down his operation/business and retire.

How hot is it? Well let's just say if you drive(truck or tractor etc) over any grass that remotely looks green, it will be dead the next day.

I'm gonna start hay for my cows next week. The cows will lose weight during this heat just foraging around. The cows are usually in the shade by 1230 pm till about 530 or 6pm.

My back food plot is toast! My front food plot is 90% toast, I do have 250' of soaker hose on that plot.

Next 3 days are expected to be our hottest days, and the heat index can reach upwards of a 121*

I have a USDA inspection on Thursday, I still have some work to do on some regrowth on some mesquites and huisaches that I will need to work on.

Thursday is showing a 70% rain chance, it's gotta be a lie.

I’m counting on El Niño. La Niña didn’t do much for me.

^^^^^

No, but it can get pretty darn hot in Kansas. I lived in 'Independence' (South East corner) as a kid and I remember plenty of 100°F days in July and August with some higher than that.

That was back in the early to mid 60's but I can't imagine it has changed much.

Texas Horned Toad Lizzard says the ground is too hot, so I will rest on top of some plants.

My door bell chime rang at 4am this morning, I knew I had a solid hit, but after sunrise there was no blood trail that my son and I could find. A few Mexican Eagles located this afternoon for me, crazy how close it was to us and we never saw it.

My USDA inspection for land clearing today went well, I should be getting a deposit in a few weeks. Glad to be done with that. I wish I had a better representative in my area, this gal is kinda lazy and she kinda balked/sighed when I told her I wanted to put in a application for more improvements for next year's funding, like a dedicated well for livestock, cross fencing etc.

With the USDA stuff done, taking small breaks away from the farm, especially with this damn heat wave stuck over us till around July 4th. I brought my smaller ZTR home from the farm to our other house in town to help my neighbor out. He is a young guy, military Veteran and a 1st year cop in the city. He broke his foot/leg bone last week, and surgery is not till next week. Anyways, the boys and I mowed, weed trimmed his yard this morning and he is on a much bigger lot and I also mowed the other lot between us and our other neighbors.

I had to reorganize the garage for the zero turn rider to fit, probably will keep it at the house in town for a couple months till my neighbor recovers. I also thought today would be great to service the ginny since it's hurricane season and the potential for black outs from the overload grid. I need to bring home a couple fuel cans from the farm and we're better prepared. Although the farm is a better place to be without power. My youngest boy will be a senior in HS next year, then we will sell off the house in town next summer. The school district at the farm is just now getting a high school, they never taught past the 8th grade, students would have to travel 30min+ to next town to attend highschool
