I have a B7800. Starts fine, idles fine, RPMs increase fine, however when I press down on forward or reverse pedal, engine wants to quit. As soon as I release the pedal, engine returns to set RPM. Suspected water in fuel. Changed fuel filter and bled system as described in manual but within a week the problem has resurfaced. Any ideas?

It has been rather cold but I keep the tractor in a pole shed and plugged in when really cold.

Drain and refill fluids when above freezing for a few hours. If that’s what it is.

If your lucky you can just drain a bit and put the plug back in when the draining fluid goes from milky to oily.

Sounds like a safety switch on the seat (operator presence switch) is going bad.

See if you can bypass it and problem goes away. If so replace switch

Not sure how the switch would cause this problem as it only happens under load moving forward or in reverse. The moment I let up on the pedal the engine resumes a steady idle, but I'm willing to try anything at the point.

The reason I would support looking at the seat switch issue is that on my B2650 as soon as it gets really cold I start having trouble with mine. It seems like my weight is barely enough to make it happy, and then if it is cold and I have coveralls and down coat on I sit in a different part of the seat, so it won't allow forward or backward movement , or start ofthe the pto. If I fool around with a cushion or piece of styrofoam to place pressure where it needs to be it is fine. In the 2650's the switch is embedded in the seat and not under it as in some models. You might have to do something different on your model.

If you suspect water in fuel you should have emptied the fuel from the tractor and filled with fresh fuel with conditioner of your choice.

Changing the filter will only work until there is too much water in the filter. This sounds like what you experienced. I'm guessing it is cold where you're at and too much water in the fuel will continue to be an issue.

I hope you find your issue and it is as simple as excess water in the fuel.

I'll probably try draining it again and see what happens, thanks.

One thing to keep in mind is...

No amount of artificial heating (block heater) will raise the hydraulic fluid temperature at all. You can have the motor toasty warm and the drive and fluid will be stone cold. If you have water in the hydraulic fluid, you could have a frozen drive.

I realize the block heater won't warm the hydraulic fluid. I don't believe that's the issue, but I may be wrong. Popular concensus is the seat switch, which I will have a look at in the morning, but thanks, I do appreciate the advice. Every little bit counts.

Shot in the dark. Could it be a fair weather problem. Open the fuel cap when it starts missing and see if the tank vent is clogged.

Update to engine sputtering. Replaced engine oil and filter as well as air filter. So far problem has not returned. Best guess, dirty air filter.
