was mowing when a loud clunk came from the Trans. area----it ended up being a shaft come uncoupled----how I don't know. I crawled under and can see the splined end of the shaft in the inspection hole by the trans.
Is there any way to put this back in place without splitting the tractor and what do you think would cause this as it wasn't being worked hard? I'm puzzled.

I suggest you go to Kubota.com and get to the correct exploded parts list and see how the pertinent parts fit together. It is probably a pin has sheared and allowed the shaft to shorten enough to fall off.

You don't mention if it's geared or HST. But on the front of the transmission shaft is a splined "velocity joint". It has some balls in it to allow for some flexibility in the shaft that comes from the engine through the clutch.

The shaft has a roll pin to hold it in position. If it's HST you can take the cover off (that's between your feet) and get a view of it. You have to be a contortionist monkey to work in there. Probably (if it's what I'm describing) have to split the tractor to get to it.

There is a thread about the a few weeks back on the forum. I don't remember who started the post.

When you get it fixed I'd suggest running some wire thru the roll pin and twisting it so it can not work it's way out.

Got it fixed. They don't leave you much room to work, my big hands and the little window that is there wasn't fun(4 hour)lineing up the shaft and coupling. took 3 times to get the holes lined up for the roll pin. Had to grind a small taper on one end of the pin to get it started and had to grind a special bevel on a piece of rebar for a tool to drive it in. the job was a lot easier than splitting the the frame.
The FEL posed a special obstruction doing this job.If I knew how to put pictures on here I would....the wife got some x rated language along with some video at one point. Thanks for all the responces to guide me in this delima.

I think I was giving directions for the wrong shaft! Sorry.

When I needed to get to the roll pin on the back end of an L2050 shaft I had to make something to get to the pin. I took some 5/32 stainless steel welding rod, knocked the flux off of it, cut it to length to make a punch.

Good that you got it fixed.

To post pictures, I only know how to do it if they are on my hard drive. So I use my phone to take pictures, load them to my HD then put them on the forum.

If you have pictures on your HD you can go to the top of this page and see a "paperclip", click on that and you can browse you photos, select one, upload it and it will show up with your written message. You can repeat the procedure to upload up to 5 pictures with each post.

Did you wire the roll pin in?
If you don't want it happening again you run a wire threw it and tie it back on itself. ;)
