My first post in this or any forum. I see a lot of discussion about overfilling L2501 (or similar) tractors with the sight windows.

My question is since I have overfilled this, how do you drain a little to recheck it?

My dealer said loosen the hydro filter.

Is this right?

That or the drain plug (carefully) and use a clean catch pan as the fluid is useable again. (so long as you drain it into a clean container.

In reality, if it's just a tad overfilled, it won't hurt anything. If you 'filled it up' it might.

You need to be sitting on very level ground to check. My experience with the site glass is that just a small amount of lean in any direction will through the fluid level high or low.

And if it was me I wouldn't loosen the filter to drain. You stand a chance of messing up the seal then the filter is useless.

A super easy way to do it is to remove the sight glass. Probably unscrew by hand. It's a plastic screw in that is easy to take out. Have a big wide pan to catch the fluid. If you park the tractor with a right hand lean, you will probably have the level just right when it drains down to the bottom of the hole.
Good Luck.:D
