In the US, Off road diesel is dyed red, and isn't taxed. If the DOT brown-shirts find any trace of Red dye in a truck's tank, $10,000 fine, minimum...

I've been through a couple hurricanes where they lifted the ban on using off road diesel in a vehicle. We had to lock up and hide our gas can on our service trucks during that same period. Had a coworker get robbed for a couple gallons of gas. You would see fist fights break out at gas stations, and after reports of a couple of shootings we started siphoning off road diesel out of the equipment at work to keep the trucks on the road till the gas stations started getting deliveries again.

Gas 2.27/ gallon, diesel 2.58/ gallon, not sure what off road is at the moment

We still have enough farmers that use a good bit of OFF -ROAD stuff that if they taxed it as on road ......they would be more pissed off than the screwing they get normally !

Most farmers (large scale) have large holding tanks for their diesel - and since the tank is filled once or twice a year and none of it is used to fuel their trucks - they do not have to pay the 20-30 cents more per gallon that is supposed to help pay for the roads and bridges and what not.

AND it is nice to drive up with my little yellow container and fill up cheaper than gasoline.....well almost!:D

Here in New Brunswick, we pay 1.20/ liter x 4.54=5.44 Can gal. for road diesel. Reg. gas is 1.02 /liter x 4.54=4.63 for a gal.

Another way to look at off road diesel is that it's basically heating oil and it's not taxed like on road fuel. Most heating oil today is also low sulfur like diesel is. That may be an option for some folks who burn a lot of diesel off road but are stuck with buying the taxed fuel. Some people always ask why buy off road diesel...in return I ask why pay extra taxes when you don't have to? :D

Heating oil tanks are a great option for storing diesel, they are inexpensive new and can easily be found free of charge used. Just thought I would throw that out there!

We're feeling the pinch now with the lower fuel prices. 250 people got laid off Thursday that work in support of the oil field. That was just one company!!! More layoffs are supposed to happen over the next couple of weeks with several other companys

It's awful how quickly a booming industry can go bust and lose good paying jobs. The pres didn't have a problem shooting the keystone project right out of the air. That would have created a lot of jobs and added a nice boost to an economy that's dead in the water. I don't see the big deal selling oil to other countries if it creates stable, good paying jobs for Americans.

Here is a good article from Schlumberger, big cats in the oil industry, basically explaining what Daren is seeing first hand. They are industry leaders, and I doubt they got to that leading position making false predictions....

Call me "alarmist." Call me "conspiratorial." Whatever...

Netanyahu told the world Israel will not allow Iran to get the bomb. Estimates then were from 9 mos to a year that they would have enough fissionable material to make one device. With the doubling of centrifuges over the last three years, there will be much more material available by this time next year, possibly enough for three or four bombs.

War in the Middle East is right around the corner. This will drive oil prices up sharply. Top your tanks off now while its cheap -and available.

Well, we're down to 1.69/ gallon of gas.

Diesel is down to 1.95/ gallon.

Oil field has tanked in arkansas. Ton of folks are out of work and laid off. Quite a few companies have shut there doors from trucking to hose and fitting supply companies.
